I was just wondering whether it was one of those things that were illegal like recording things from the radio or tv but were allowed for some reason.

Like Daisy said, it's about Fair Use. It's like if we were in school and all the kids liked cutting picturesd out of magazines and putting them on our noteboooks, no one is gonna care, we're not making money of it, or depriving anyone of potential moneys, so it's all good.
