i love the way they used time travel in that movie. it wasn't overdone and it didn't feel like a gimmick.

So true. For a movie not about time travel, I think Azkaban has the best use of time travel in any film. It's set up well and executed perfectly.

My favorite movies about time travel (not just time travel in it) are:

Back To The Future
Time Bandits
Peggy Sue Got Married
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
Timecop

I'm a massive fan of the Potter series, but I thought the way of time travel was convoluted. Mostly because they didn't change a damn thing and it basically stated everything is set in stone.

i.e, who threw the rock and moved in the bushes the very first time BEFORE they went back in time?

Harry and Hermione cause the effect and change the events during the film even though we don't see them, including the rock. We could see them but we don't because it would give away the ending. That's simply the filmmaking. We see them actually going back in time later and cause the effects we already saw earlier. But time is not linear. Just because we don't see them go back in time and cause the changes until the end, that doesn't mean that the effect of them going didn't happen during the film.

Since time isn't linear, the fact that they eventually go back in time sets the changes in motion. Think Bill and Ted part 1 in the jail sequence. Their actions in the future effect the present, even though he time travel event hasn't happened. It's because it WILL happen.

Basically, Harry and Hermoine changed all the events i.e the rock because they will eventually travel back in time. If someone travels back in time to right this minute from the time of 50 years from now (2058), that time travel event hasn't actually happened yet, right, but we'll see them now. Their actions will effect the present even though they may not even be born yet.

Good explanation, I can only say I'm not fond of that type of time travel very much at all.

I prefer the BTTF logic. Twin Pines Mall is always Twin Pines Mall, but when Marty goes back in time and changes things, it then becomes Lone Pines Mall. Going by HP time travel, it should have always been Lone Pine Mall.

So your right, that makes sense, I just don't think it's the best way of going about things.

i advize you not to bother with the sequel, tho. unless you just want to see Erica Durance, and nothing else.
