Overexposure kills!
Everyone knows that, it´s common sense, too much is too much, things go from exciting to boring in a heart beat.
Halo is getting there, not that there are Halo games each year, but because that´s all Microsoft talks about.

Activision is changing its business model to suit the needs of gamers. The Call of Duty franchise is good business and they're focused on releasing many more titles per annum.
The best way of achieving this goal is to bring the two studios behind the games together so they can keep things tight and support each other to make a greater volume of games, said Brian Newton - Activision spokesperson. The proposed name by shareholder meeting was "Duty Calls". Our vision is to produce not just two Call of Duty titles a year but release new projects within the Call of Duty brand.

Do you have a link? This really doesnt make that much sense for me and I question the validity of it. The whole purpose of having the 2 on the CoD games is so that they can release 1 every year. Treyarch makes a game 1 year and IW makes the next one the following and they rotate. With them officially splitting Modern Warfare into its own series, it makes keeping the 2 studios seperate even more of a better option. That quote makes it seem as if they are ready to ****e the series out like they're currently doing with Guitar Hero

This was talked about awhile ago, that IW and Treyarch would merge. I just assumed that COD would do what it has always done but now both teams would be named the same thing, so people wouldn't know which game is going to be better.

Maybe you should question the validity of it.
I found it on the gametrailers forum (you know, when you get into the site, and, in the right side, there is a box with the last threads), and i found it so illogical, that i had to make this thread.
They have a link, but it doesn´t go anywhere (http://www.gamercenteronline.net/2009/03/26/DutyCallsofMerger).
If there is anything there, Kotaku or anyother will follow it in a heartbeat.

I dont doubt this. This fits Activisions business model which is to have 3 or 4 franchises that can crank out multiple titles a year. This is why they dropped Ghostbusters and Riddick. Those games didnt fit their model of being able to crank out multiple titles from the same franchise per year. If they are able to push out multiple CoD's a yr, that'll be perfect for them. Infinity Ward needs to get away from Activison as soon as they can or they will never be able to create outside of the Call of Duty franchise.

Isn't the next Modern Warfare going to be disconnected from the COD franchise?

Well they have dropped the name Call of Duty, but its still a sequel to Call of Duty 4. Its not a new series by any means.

1 game each year in sports, i can understand (don´t agree, but understand); but in an FPS, that´s stupid, and to make 2 each year is borderline ridiculous.
I see no future in the CoD franchise if that is true.

IA. It also kills the post release support for the game. We had like what 1 piece of DLC for CoD4. Just 5 months after release and Activision was done with CoD4 as they wanted all the focus on WaW. There's little incentive to extending the life of the games if they plan on cranking out multiple titles during the year. If this does end up being true, I hope this means they will just be working on different projects for the different systems. 360/PS3/PC get the main game, with seperate games under the CoD name going to the Wii, DS and PS2/PSP

Wow. What's the point of this? The online life of each game will be really short, one comes out & the next comes out 5 months later. I really hope this isn't true. One per year is enough, there's only so much people can take (even uber COD fanboys) before we get sick of it completely.

Agreed. It also kills my interest as well. Why spend $10 on DLC for a game that's going to abandoned months from now? Why spend $10 for a map pack when half the games populace will abandon the game 6 months from now when the new game pops out?

Warhawk....now that's a game I don't regret a penny spent on DLC. Every DLC has had some significant upgrade, and the game continues to occasionally receive support.

But Warhawk isnt being ****ed out. They dont have a new title coming out every damn year. Damn i hate Activision. Im soooooo glad those dumbasses dropped Ghostbusters. I would have hated seeing their logo all over Ghostbusters.

and I think thats his point. The fact that Sony isnt ****ing Warhawk makes the purchase and enjoyment for the game that much better then had they taken Activision's approach and constantly cranked out Warhawk games, while abandoning support for the one they just released not too long ago

Yea i saw his point, i was just trying to restate that i think Activision is one of the only ppl to do this outside of sports games. I mean we aren't seeing a yearly Gears of War, Halo, Killzone etc etc. I swear, eventually Activision is going to over saturate the market with CoD and i cant wait for that to happen.

I doubt I'd buy two or more COD's every year.
