Is Zorro a Superhero?

Indeed, Alot of Bats characteristics is dirived from Zorro. And Batman is no more impresive with his grapel gun than Zorro is with his bullwhip. They both have gadgets, both use stealth, both are vigilanties, both wear black, both take animal names (Zorro means Fox for those of you about to google search), so practicaly there are the same. Its like Zorro was an ancient California Batman. He is a superhero.

And both use the spoiled, playboy alter ego and talk negatively about their "true selves" in public ala Bruce in BB, "Guy who dresses up like a bat, CLEARLY has issues."

And in The Mask of Zorro: "He probably wears that mask to hide his incredibly bald head..." (paraphrase)

I'd say he's a superhero in the same vein of Batman, Conan, Robin Hood, or Tarzan.

Of course he is a superhero, that´s not even a question.

The need to have superpowers to be a superhero is a thing of the past.
Superhero is a tittle to heroes/antiheroes/vigilantes...
A superhero has to be with the life they lead, and the things they go up against, the scale of things.
That´s why you can find superheroes in movies too, like Riddick or the Ghostbusters.
The Punisher is a superhero too...

Zorro is folk hero, not really a superhero. to me, superhero has a very literary connotation, the term came into common use with the introduction of superman in action comics. i don't want to say a character has to appear in comics after 1938 to be a superhero, but that's a loose parameter. Zorro also never really fought villains, just evil spanish governors and soldiers. he's in teh same vein as robin hood, and if you think robin hood is a superhero...no, just no.

Actually superheroes have to be super. They have to be able to do what ordinary men cannot. That is what superheroe..to me means. Batman is just a hero there is nothing super about him no matter how fit or what human peak he is in.

They have to be able to do what ordinary men cannot.

And an ordinary man can go out in a costume and protect the citizens of his city day in and day out?

It's not just about the physical when it comes to superheroes. Superheroism, IMO, is a mentality.

Batman not a superhero? Please... :whatever:

EXACTLY.

Actually, that's not true. What they need is the fortification and resolve to go forward to challenge crime and evil. That may or may not mean putting on a suit to do it, but it pretty much does mean utilizing some benefit or talent they have for an altruistic intent.

To think superheroes have to be super is purely ludicrous and goofy poppycock.

I know a lot of people who don't have the ballz to go out and do what Batman, Conan, The Punisher, Robin Hood, Zorro, or Tarzan do on a daily basis. They're too much of a punk or beyich to do it. That's what separates superheroes. Someone who is willing to go out and do it.

No, Zorro is not a superhero.

A Superhero is simply a character based on Superman.

in what way are Robin Hood and Tarzan superheroes? one's a theif, a noble theif with good intentions, but still a theif, and the other just lives in the jungle.

I see it the same way. If Bruce Wayne can be a superhero because of his skill and resourcefullness, why not Zorro for the same reasons?

Unlike Batman, Zorro sticks exclusively to fighting normal human beings. Bats likes to beat on aliens, demons and robots every alternate week-end. That's why Batman is a Super-Hero and Zorro is a very good but basic hero.

I think he did, actually.

So....for a superhero to be a superhero....he needs to fight aliens? And robots?

One would argue Batman fighting those things isn't what makes him a superhero.

I think alot of you guys make good points. Except the costume. I think having a superheroes uniform, like Zorro's, ultimately makes him a superhero when compared to someone like Robin Hood.

Batman and Zorro are alike. Namely because Batman stole alot from Zorro.....but, that's moot.

Of course Zorro is a superhero.

Costume. Mask. Secret identity. Recurring villians.

100% superhero. Just as much as Batman.

would you call V a superhero? i think that's more the vein El Zorro is

V is a superhero. Doesn't he have superstrength and agility to boot too?

i really don't think V could be considered a superhero, even though he may have super abilities. he's a freedom fighter and a symbol of revolution, a folk hero, like Zorro.

As long as Batman is generally regarded as a superhero, so should Zorro.

If you have seen many Tarzan films (most notably w/the great Johnny Weissmueller) you would not make that statment. If you have seen films with him, and don't understand, I can't make it any clearer.

Robin Hood is about doing good deeds to help others. Anyone who thinks Robin Hood is "just a thief" has clearly not read much on the literary history of the character, or the metaphors and myth surrounding him.

Reading is Fundamental. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the metaphors and symbology regarding the characters and what they stand for. It may open your eyes to the characters, and you may see that they indeed are superheroes for their time, and what they represent ideally stands for all time.
