Isn't it safe to assume that TIME TRAVEL will NEVER be possible?

The Tv Show "Red Dwarf" also played with that idea, in an episode called "Dimension Jump"

they did it rather well

All of us have already done it, just on very small scales.
Heres the deal:
Your movement through TIME and your movement through SPACE (walking across a room) will always add up to equal the speed of light.
This means that if I sit motionless, I am traveling through time at the speed of light.
This also means that if I am running at the speed of light, i am traveling through time at 0 mph.
So everytime we walk or run, we actually slow down our speed through time.
And since no one is traveling at exactly the same mph, we all travel through time at different speeds.
Nice concept huh?

I've heard about that concept. If you take a plane your movement through space speeds up and your movement through time decreases so you actually live longer if you fly more often. (Except that the effects of flying on your body may do other damage than travel through time does).

Every minute of every day we are travelling forward through time. The tricky bit is travelling backward. If someone does work out a way to do it we would probably never know of it because the minute they travel back into time they change history and create another timeline of which we are not a part. (Alternate Universe theory)

Another question: Whats the future when your dealing with time travel?

John connor sent the Terminator back in time to guard himself as a teen. That teen thought he was living in the now-future when infact he was not. Who then is living in the Now-future? Since John Connor "past" was still in motion that suggests the past moves forward but on a linear path. If you think about the moment time travel is invented and that one day it will be on that linear past path, its reasonable to say they could go into the "future" because its the Linear future that has already come about.

Time travel suggests that time preceded existance (I.E. you can travel back in time before the universe was created) but how can time "exist" if there is nothing to observe it?

john made his own future. the future in the terminator series is a self fullfilling prophesy because no matter what he does it's already happened. he tries to tell himself that there is no future but what he makes for himself. he acts to prevent the future are reacted against leading to the future he fears. the whole thing could be thought of as a delution based on the abandonment by his mother having a break down. you know what would be a really screwed up ending to the terminator series. it turns out john's a machine.

Even if it was, we wouldn't know. Any tampering with something would change the timeline, and chances are we wouldn't know about it anyway.

EX--On a different timeline, we may have already entered nuclear war, and blew one of the other countries completely off the Planet. But in this timeline, we haven't, so we wouldn't know about it.

In short, you wouldn't know the change happened, because the event that was changed never happened the way it did before the tampering.

Exactly. Time travel is still possible and if it is there are chances that history has been changed already but you're not going to know if it is or not. And if you don't get it...I suggest buying a couple seasons of Quantum Leap, you will not be disappointed.

the square root of (e/m) = c so in every light second the more the energy the less the mass. a light second is both a distance and a time as long as light is invarient. so really it goes back to the michaelson morly experiment which i never agreed with anyway. so we are defining time by the speed of light rather than the other way around.

If one believes that at some point in mans history, this great scientific achievement will be possible, isn't it safe to assume that someone should already know about it-in our time?

Think about it, someone from say the year 2800, would have undoutable already been (Or may still be here) and have inter-reacted with someone with the government, so someone from our time should already know time travel will be possible in the future, right?

But here's my thing, IF TIME TRAVEL is one day conceivable, why then did, say '911' still take place? I picked that day because it will be forever mark as a historic day in US history, so someone from the future should know of it. It seems to me that TIME TRAVEL may NEVER be possible due to all the horrific events that have happened over the last few centuries, which could have been easily been prevented by someone coming back in time with the preconcieved knowledge of when, where and how these events take place......

Maybe altering an event like '911' will seriously jepodize other future events if prevented?

Maybe someone DID try and prevent some great, historical atrocity, and succeeded in a way. What we deem as horrific, they deemed as an OK outcome-as, ORIGINALLY, the event turned out alot worse?

if the chamber was revolved 360 degrees the change to light would be zero in total also from knowing about lasers i think the mirrors might actually mess with the light making it a constant speed in that moment. going back to heinsenburg again.

Interesting. Who said that the distaters we are seeing RIGHT NOW aren't more? We have no way to know because, if you theory was true, then we wouldn't know how many there was to start with. Therefore what we think is the NORMAL amount of distasters might in fact actually be MORE in comparison to how it might have been before the timeline was tampered with...

Albert Einstein originally theorized that if you went faster than the speed of light you would actually go back in time. In fact the faster you move time slows down. Our Astronauts just from how fast they are moving usually lose about 18 seconds for every few months they spend in space.

What I mean is if you wave good bye as their ship flies off and set a timer going off, and they set one going off, when they get back their timer will be 18 seconds behind yours.
Scientists rescently successfully sent light particles back in time a tiny fraction of a second, by sending them through a paricle accelerator. The light particles actually went faster than the speed of light and came out the other end before scientists sent them in the other side.

Time travel is a proven fact. In fact were all doing it right now. Were slowly moving through spacetime into the future.

I would hope that future mankind would have a temporal prime directive. There's no reason to really single out 9/11. As horrible as it was with everything else that has happened since mankind existed, 9/11 is nothing but a grain of sand on the beach.

perhaps they did try to go back and stop things from happening, but every time it only made things worse. perhaps then somebody went back to undo the changes by stopping the first temporal interference.

As horrible as history is, we learn from it. Hopefully we learn from it faser than the pace of technology. If we hadn't made those mistakes and learned from them, then say 50 years from now, we end up making them with that technology in our hands.



Perhaps the reason we haven't been visited by people from the future is that mankind annihilates himself before we develop the ability to send people back in time. Or perhaps we have been visited, but they remain in secret. Maybe these guys make a living off of predicting the future or something.
