It's a small, small world, and you're too fat for it

There is nothing a fat person does that is even close to that risk, are you really afraid that being near a fat person you'd succumb to overeating?
Assume for a minute the girl I'm dating is a fat person (she's not), do you think I could honestly, with any degree of assurance, follow my lifestyle and eating habits if I had to cater a section of it to someone who was fat?

And yes, the habits of your friends wear off on you...you'd have to be ******ed not to notice this.

Those two examples are really a stretch, especially the drug one. With drugs there is a criminal element
Not all of them.
many drugs are hyper addictive
Food is addictive as well. Sugar, for example, increases dopamine levels in the brain. Very few drugs are "hyper addiction", most require habitual or multiple use before they become addictive, some aren't addictive at all.
and the results from drug use can oftentimes be voilent
That's not true. Some drugs make people violent, not all drugs. Pot doesn't make you violent.
all of which are risks to your person.
So is overeating and/or eating unhealthy food.

Yes you could. Fat people are not known to be enablers, they aren't going to temp you with injections of sugar to get you high, or take you to sleazy late night eateries to debauch in an orgy of eating. Most people with eating disorders do it in secret, outside of view of others, they don't advertise and flaunt it.

Now mind you this is the super-obese, normal overweight people just eat a bit more than most others, exercise less or not at all, I don't see how that would make somebody go down that road by just being around them.

How do you know? Do you even know what an "enabler" is, because it's exactly what I'm describing.

Who says they have to?

So do most drug users.

Then you don't understand what an "enabler" is. When someone goes through drug rehab they remove their "enablers", some of which may be things like the job they work at, the friends they hang around with. An enabler doesn't have to be actively influencing you in any, way, shape or form. Their presence can simply do so.

For example, my friend, who is very conservative Christian has gotten me to go to Church with him. Not because he asked me to, but because I wanted to share in a lifestyle of someone whom I was close to. If I was trying to rehab off of Church, his pressence would certainly be considered an enabler of my addiction. Similarly the people I work out with are enablers to my lifestyle, even though not a single one of them has ever actively presuaded me to do it.

Not all of them.

Most drugs are illegal, so dealing with people who use drugs constitutes a criminal element.

Food is addictive as well. Sugar, for example, increases dopamine levels in the brain. Very few drugs are "hyper addiction", most require habitual or multiple use before they become addictive, some aren't addictive at all.

I was meaning hard drugs like heroin or meth, where one try and you could be sunk for life, there is no food that even comes close to drugs like that.

That's not true. Some drugs make people violent, not all drugs. Pot doesn't make you violent.

Most drugs constitute personality changes that can be serious friendship issues, again, no food can come close to that.

Why is that? Is it willful or just no fat people around that are interesting enough to know?

the circle of people I hang with....which is about 4 others including myself....we are all average size people....like I said...2 of them are in the gym about 4 days a week.....i cant explain why we dont have any fat people in the group.....it makes things easier when we go out though because we can all fit in one car....

Then you don't understand what an "enabler" is.

An enabler is somebody who openly pushes their lifestyle, actively creates a situation that would cause somebody else to slip into that same situation.

Besides having some unsavory food in the house, what other enablings are you talking about?

Ok, either you are all driving Yugos, or you are just being crass.

Not at all....most times we all meet somewhere...but if we are going together...we usually take either my car, which is a 96 4 door contour, which we all fit in fine....or my friiend has an SUV...and we all fit in that fine....

Ok, so it was a crass comment. What size of people are you talking about?

I wasnt attempting to be crass....if you took it that way, sorry...we're all average size people....i'm the tallest in the group at 6'2

I do?

The only thing more pathetic than someone who engages in such sloth so as to become morbidly obese is someone who doesn't understand sarcasm and spends hours defending those morbidly obese people over it.

Alcohol, cigarettes and pain killers are illegal? Must have missed that new law. No, the drugs abused in the highest amount and those that are most readily available are legal.

Not many drugs do either. Very few, in fact you could probably name them all on one hand, drugs carry any instant addictive properties with them. In many, many cases the addictive properties of drugs...especially the common ones...are comprable to certain foods.

Not to futher defend drugs, but that's not true either...."The War on Drugs" was what hyped up that hogwash. Anything that affects your brain chemistry, food included, can cause drastic personality changes depending on the person or none at all.

Yeah, better to just be an ******* and be done with it.

Christ, I thought it was obvious I was talking about illicit drugs, not anything with some chemicals in it or in a pill form. Also, until I see clinics opening up for food item abuse like that exist for drug abuse, your claim here is tenuous at best. And I mean item, ie addicted to chocolate or twinkies, and not just food in general like overeating issues.

Ok, so you are saying that food items have a more drastic effect on personality than drugs, or are we just arguing semantics?

It's ok, you just picked an example that would ingratiate yourself with every other 'fatty' hater on these boards. I understand, a man is not an island.

I picked the example that is most associated with Americans. If you aren't from the US, then I can understand how you don't understand that. Buy if you are American then you must be blind not to see obesity as being a huge problem nationwide moreso than any of the other examples you pointed out.

That's bullsh1t. If you know what to eat and are willing to put a little effort into preparing your own meals, whole and nutritious foods are priced the same or cheaper than the garbage most people buy and put in their bodies.

jag

Some whole foods are cheap. I eat lots of beans and lentils and buying them in bulk at Wild Oats or even bagged is dirt cheap. But some types of produce and organic meats are extremely high. I buy them anyway, but I always think how grateful I am to be able to afford them. I know a lot of people can't. I've been paying $6.00 for a bag of small organic apples. They're one of the fruits I always buy organic, since they absorb higher concentrations of pesticides than say, bananas. A bag lasts me a while, but if I was a single parent with three kids, I wouldn't be buying the organic apples, and it's a shame. When kids are small and they're bodies are still growing is when so many of these chemicals can be particularly harmful.

Don't look now, but you missed the sarcasm again.

If you shop retail, you'll pay retail prices which are quite often jacked up to ridiculous levels. It's understandable if you live in the middle of a big city like NYC and can't get to a place where you can buy fresh, organic produce from the growers at Farmer's Markets or roadside stands, fresh eggs from direct from the farmer or organic beef from a butcher who processes only grass-fed cattle that hasn't been injected with growth hormones or steroids. Same goes for chicken, pork, turkey or even fish. Even then, there are deals to be found in retail outlets if you know where to look. Specialty places like Wild Oats or Whole Foods are notorious for overcharging for that stuff, sometimes because the cost of expedited shipping and storage and other times just because they can. I try to buy direct from the grower or farmer whenever I can because then I know it's fresh and good quality and doesn't have the added cost of having a middle-man inserting his fees into the middle of my transaction. Good for you for not settling for the usual crap most people eat, though.

I don't consider that to be average anymore. I never thought I was that tall (I'm 6'3") until I began traveling as an adult. I've been in countless cars where I had to almost fold in half to get through the door. I was in 4 different airplanes this weekend. In 2 of them, I had only 1-2 inches over my head and in the the other two, the cabin actually touched my head when I stood up. I feel like most of the world is built for hobbits.
