The blue on the gloves is my only problem. I believe the belt/waist area will be on the suit, as it looks like it's been torn off here, and I see no sign of red on th legs but do see some at the very top--almost like the remains of said belt/waist area. None of those things are what makes this look 'gritty'. The colour, the shapes made with the design, and its sleak look could be described as 'gritty', although that's not the word I'd choose to use.
Look at the brightened, high-resolution version of the picture. There is clearly a red pattern going down the side of the right leg.

And I don't think "sleak" when I think "gritty."

Somebody explain to me how putting blue into the gloves, taking away the red waistband, and putting red down the leg makes this design "more gritty".

I think the shinier appearance will give it a different look. There's more texture, which creates more contrast which is probably what people are seeing when they say it looks "gritty". That and the battle damage. You can't make too many judgments from one image though.

Well, the body type he has in spades. I do want to hear what accent he chooses to use for him though. Most actors have voiced him as a pretty flat sounding character with his voice, but he's from Queens, so it will be interesting if Garfield gives him a slight accent.

That's probably what I'm taking away from it the most. Garfield's body type looks much closer to what I think of for Spider-Man.

Judging from this pic, Raimi's suit has more accuracies than this one. What happened to immense accuracy of suits from fans? For God sakes, the GL suit was more accurate and that got alot more hate. Now this is suddenly okay? I was honestly expecting a lightening storm of rage here but I'm surprised it is the complete opposite.

I don't either. That's why I said it's not a word I would choose to use. I think a certain amount of understanding is needed with the fans using the word 'gritty'. They've seen one picture of Spidey, he's clearly had his arse kicked and is dirtied up, it's at night (dark shot), and Garfield looks... what we gonna say--upset, pissed, emotional? Also, the suit in general doesn't look as... tidy(?) as the suit from the last franchise. Those are a few things that could explain why the word 'gritty' is being used.

I really like the suit and do believe that those metal things on his wrists are webshooters, what else could they be?

I'm also pretty puzzled by the reception. Defintely thought it wasn't going to be received well with how I reacted but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Good for those who like it but the design isn't growing on me. The last hope of some saving grace will be the mask for me at this point.

Again none of this will affect how I see the movie. Still really excited for it just a shame it couldn't of been another more accurate design that would have still separated itself from the Raimi series but still remain reverent.

I think that the choice of blue and webbing lines on this new Spiderman suit are what makes it better than the Spiderman suit in Rami's Spiderman movies,it just looks more appealing.

It looks more gritty because the material used is course and strong looking, also the lines aren't perfect, it has a more raw design. Maguire's look like silk pyjama's compared to this. I loved the Raimi suit but can't help but see this as more real world, and yes gritty :cwink:. . .

And with the mask on, I think it'll look even more Amazing!!. . .

Preference and taste will always trump comic book accuracy. No one cares if you deviate as long as you make it work.

Faithfulness and strict adherence to the source is so much of a proven myth I'm surprised people still subscribe to its belief in a successful product.

Frankly, I think the costume rocks. For some reason I was expecting it to look almost exactly like the Raimi suit, but I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by this design. It's faithful enough for me. Can't wait to see the mask.

That's a good manpi!

It looks much better with the waistband.

Looks way better with it actually. Makes a huge difference.

Takes my eye off of the "hi tech" seams.

As I said before I like the suit. I actually like that the lines aren't perfect and that the suit has a more roughed quality if you will. However I hope the web pattern on the mask is symetrical and the lines are perfectly matched in terms of the space between each other, I dont want one line to be half an inch separated and other two an eight of an inch if you know what I mean. It would look to sloppy. I t seems that Webb is going for a more real world feel for this but there has to be a balance between something that looks rough on the edges and something that has that cinematic beauty and aesthetic.

The "hi tech" seams that craigdbfan is talking about makes me think that the suit looks like something from TRON, except not as fun because it doesn't glow.
