Much of the world has received Iron Man 2 already (I’ve seen it with a paying crowd, and rather liked it), but the USA and Canada do not. Almost as though compensation for the wait, however, it seems that the film’s prints are coming to North American cinemas with a special in-the-can bonus.
Pretty much recreating the surprise of when Cloverfield burst from the shadows with a mysterious trailer before Transformers, it looks as though a new secret project from JJ Abrams is going to be officially unveiled this Thursday, when Iron Man 2 takes its first bow at midnight screenings.
This is curious enough. There are, however, some other small, teasing details to discuss and they’ve gotten me even more interested.
Note that all of this comes from Drew McWeeny at Hit Fix who, if I read the situation right, was actually considering not posting the story and keeping the trailer secret (see: Twitter). Has he done the wrong thing? Has he undercut the magic a little?

don’t think so. He certainly hasn’t got any info to share on what is actually in the trailer, or even a hint of what the film might be about. Drew has only given the hype and anticipation a kick-start. Then again, I would say that - look what I do for a living.
Okay, maybe there are some tiny hints of what the film might be about. There’s a title for one thing: Super 8. This might be, I’m thinking, just a code title, though I assumed the same about Cloverfield. And there’s some suggestion of rumours (which rumours? where?) that the film is somehow a Cloverfield sequel.
One theory would be that the film is a Cloverfield prequel - Super 8 home movies being a precursor to the video we associate with the first film. I think that theory is likely wrong, but you never know.
I also wonder if Super 8 is the same thing as 500 Rads, a previously reported secret Abrams project…? Very possibly, I think. How many mystery boxes can one man be prepping?
The story goes that Abrams directed the teaser but isn’t directing the film. Who is? And why didn’t they direct the teaser?
So, there we go - more questions than answers and I’m sure there’s more of both to come (and in similar proportions) when the trailer gets unspooled for the first time this Thursday PM. I’ll see you back here at /Film then.

I personally hope it's Cloverfield 2, but it's just so damn impossible.

No Dark Tower? Go f**k yourself Abrams! LOST is the last thing you get from me you four eyed piss ant!!

If It's cloverfield 2 or Star Trek 2 I'd be more happier then seeing Iron man 2

I can't go to a midnight screening of Iron Man 2. Someone better be here at like 3am posting a description of this teaser!

And yeah, I hope it's Cloverfield 2.

Yeah, I loved Cloverfield so much, and based on how quiet they were about the sequel, this gives me a lot of hope.

i hope its something new and unique.

for stuff like this i will allways respect this guy.

Stuff like what? Vague trailers and viral marketing...?

Hey, I enjoy some of Abrams' stuff and all, but I find it kind of strange that someone would respect him for viral marketing stuff. Maybe that's just me, because all this viral stuff really does nothing for me.

Anyway, part of me thinks they won't pull the same trick twice with a Cloverfield sequel, but at the same time, it did end up working pretty well for the first one. I really won't be surprised if that's what it is. With the other projects he's attached to, it seems the most likely

EDIT: Wow, after checking his imdb page and seeing all those untitled projects he's producing, maybe not that likely.

he likes secrets. he likes to tease people. he doesnt want to spoil everything to the masses.

i understand that since this is a superhero forum that all of you want to know everything. but there was a time where it was nice to watch a trailer in the theater ........where they didnt promote the realese of the trailer for 2 months. where they didnt realese a 20 second teaser for the 2 minute trailer.

yes i like that i know nothing . nothing.i will find out in the theater.

thats why i dont go in the Inception thread anymore. i saw the teaser trailer and i found out that Nolan wants to keep as much as possible for the theater experience. i respect that. so i will whait.

:)

You can do trailers without having all the vagueness and viral marketing, make it interesting, and not 'spoil everything to the masses'. The Inception trailers are a good example. They have enough effects and footage to give an idea what kind of thing you can expect, spoils nothing about the story or characters, but doesn't end abruptly with giving you literally nothing (like most of the original Cloverfield teasers). Even Inception has gotten on this viral marketing kick, though.

Just because you don't buy into viral marketing and like solid trailers doesn't mean you want everything spoiled.

I love viral marketing! ****, I write for www.movieviral.com, they basically cover any and everything viral. Haha. (shameless plug)

That's cool, a lot of people are into the viral stuff. I don't know, it just never really did it for me. I enjoy the mystery aspect, but I'm rarely so much into it to follow sites and videos and such related to it

Viral marketing interests me as a form of advertising, but I don't care enough to actually participate in it. And as much as I enjoyed both of Abrams' directorial efforts, I think people might get a little too pumped about everything that has his name on it. For the most part, I don't really care who produces a movie.

Very cool news....and if the link is right, than it's just enough of a concept change to maybe feel fresh.

The Cloverfield viral campaign had a pretty nice background story, sadly Abrams and Reeves' always said it had nothing to do with the film. Looks like this does now! :D

Sounds pretty interesting actually. If that link is correct I wonder if it'll be partially traditionally film as well as shaky cam. Though, I guess they could be filming their findings or something like that

Hopefully he'll concentrate more on making the film better this time as opposed to just the viral marketing :o

He actually had nothing to do with the viral. So....

:/
