Cloverfield sequel in the works

i'd be more interested if Matt Reeves was involved but sure, bring it on, i guess.

Will be interesting to see what direction they go. But yeah I wish Matt Reeves was involved even as a producer.

It might no seem like it now, but this movie was something else back in the day. A big-budget found footage movie about a giant monster destroying New York? It was so cool.

I hope they find something equally great for the next one.

I might have pointed this out before in this thread, but there's quite a few interesting plot points they could follow from the aftermath of the first movie: Tagruato's shady and downright malicious actions that ultimately led to Clover waking up and the company either trying to cover it up after the attack in New York or reeling from media outrage; more Clovers laying dormant at the bottom of the ocean, similar to Cloverfield/Kishin, that wake up due to some kind of interference.

Would also be cool to bring back Jessica Lucas from the first one since her character was the only one to survive of that cast and we'd have that more personal connective tissue.

I remember they hinted at several other recordings made on the same night. I don't know how they can do something different with it, but I like the idea of multiple points of view.

You could implement that idea into this, definitely, but like in a media coverage way. I think making the whole movie revolve around a different person filming the same event with a camera would be severely underwhelming at this point and a retread of the first one.

I feel exploring the aftermath would be much more interesting a route to take.

It was literally a movie that felt like it came out of my nightmares. (It was a T-Rex instead of Clover)

The original was… fifteen years ago…?

I’m gonna walk into the sea.
"But it is said that Sawyer would not live thereafter, being bereft of all purpose and desire, and cast himself at last into the western sea; and so ended the mightiest of the warriors of mortal Men."

I just feel like they waited way too long, and as I recall, the first one was not that well-liked.

I really liked it. It was different. I even bought the DVD. My wife didn't like it. She said it gave her a headache. I either don't get headaches or have one all of the time.

I hate most found footage movies.

What I remember the most about Cloverfield was the marketing campaign around it, and it got everyone really pumped up. The movie I thought was OK-ish as far as found footage films go. Cool monster design but they never followed up on it. I'm not counting Cloverfield Paradox which was a total copout and wasn't even meant to connect to this movie.

It seemed like this would be more like a cinematic version of Twilight Zone or Outer Limits. Anthology type sci-fi stories. But now they are actually making a direct sequel to the original? So what are they going to do this time? And why now instead of 10 years ago?

It’s been almost a whole day and I only just realized… it’s actually been sixteen years.

I need to be in a nursing home.

I loved the original.

I know it’s about a giant monster, but as a New Yorker who lived through 9/11, that movie struck a chord with me.

I remember the hype around that first teaser attached to Transformers that didn't even give a title, only the release date of 01.18.08 which really got people talking. My friend was convinced that it was a secret Godzilla movie.

Secret Godzilla movie and a Voltron movie. I remember all those rumors.

Fun times lol.

LOL I don't remember the Voltron rumors! That's something that totally would have gotten a movie by now if Power Rangers didn't become as popular as it did.

Man listen, we are LONG overdue for a live action Voltron.

But I remember that rumor coming from people thinking the guy in the teaser saying “I SAW IT, it’s a LION, it’s huge!”

Ohhh wait, I think I do remember that now! As if Voltron would rip the head off the Statue of Liberty. :o
