I really don't want the monster to be misunderstood either. It'd kill the movie for me.

Yeah, that shot of someone bleeding out of their eyeballs doesn't spell misunderstood to me.

It could be killing people for food, or out of self defense like any cornered wild animal. It doesn't have to be evil in order to be dangerous and unfriendly.

In other news, the trailer was perfect.

I don't care if the monster is friendly or not as long as the movie is good.

Saw the trailer attached to Battle: Los Angeles. Makes the movie look very different than how I initially imagined it, but nonetheless it is on my to-see list this year among many other movies.

Oh so it could be the Cloverfield monster? No problem with that.

maybe its not even a monster. maybe its about the white object. you saw how it made a hole in the wall? maybe that little white object was coming out of the train .

Could u imagine the uproar if the big reveal ended up being a white rubix cube? lol

its not like JJ promised a monster movie. its not like he promised an alien.

the movie is about the father, son and hes friends.

Dude, the teaser showed a thing of some sort, being so powerfull it can break the side of a train cart door off with most ease & the teaser refferenced area 51, it's an alien. When you do that, your promising people something big, not a little white spikey ball lol. Is this movie ultimately about fathers & sons & friends?, well yes but could you imagine what E.T would have been like if he was nothing more than a little beam of light?. E.T is most loved not just because of the human characters but because of E.T himself. Trust me, it's no spikey ball.

The movie is ultimately about family and the value of friendship.

but i still think that if it is not a monster or alien that noone was tricked :oldrazz:

Well this movie looks awesome. It has leaped over many movies for my most anticipated.

Yeah, wehn I heard of this and saw the initial teaser, I thought "not Cloverfield again." I am probably one of the few people in this thread that thought Cloverfield was crap, but this looks amazing so far.

where have you seen this million times before?

E.T.
Cocoon
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Flight of the Navigator
War of the Worlds
Fire in the Sky (but with kids)

Movie looks great, but what really grinds my gears is how everyone always complains about Hollywood never having any original ideas (a topic being discussed ever since I was a kid), and then this movie comes along, which isn't original at all, and everyone creams over it. "OmG it looks amazing!!1 Nostalgia!11!!" etc, etc, and so forth.

I guess Hollywood is unoriginal only when it produces films that ppl don't personally like. But when it's something ppl enjoy, regardless of how unoriginal it is, it's acceptable.

GREAT trailer! Abrams and Spielberg FTW!

Btw, the music at the end is "The Ascension" by James Horner from the Cocoon soundtrack.

I have a feeling that water tower is going to be significant. Much like the vision of the Devil's Tower in Close Encounters.

God, I love these Spielbergian elements. With Abrams directing putting his own spin on it. I love it so goddamn much.

Plus I hardly think the alien or whatever it is will be the most important thing. It will be about the characters. The alien will serve as the event to bring the characters together and for them to go on and complete their journeys.

you noticed the water tower? the white cube is flying towards the tower. the cars ans tanks are going there. and it has a lens falre on the poster.

The water tower appears to be everywhere. If it's on the poster and if that hole through the wall in the bedroom was aiming for it, it has to be significant in some way.

The water tower is a microwave emitter that helps spread fear gas into the small town. Then Kyle Chandler is going to have to drive the Tumbler and blow up the legs of the water tower.
