Superman Returns J.J. Abrams' Superman Script on SimplyScripts

Uhhh...welll from a JL and JLU perspective the baddest f-ing plot in the whole run is centered around Supes and his rogue gallery. That my friend would be the Cadmus arc...:)

We could argue technicalities btw that and Starcrossed, but I'd win....just because...:)

Anyway...STAS and LnC sold well, and as someone mentioned to me Smalliville is also one of the highest ranking shows on the WB channel. So, Supes is like 3-1, counting SR and discounting SIII and SIV.

STAS was barely noticeable as Power Rangers were still kicking the crap out of it and next to no kids were running around with Superman paraphernalia (except dorks like me). Lois and Clark was continually spanked by Murder She Wrote of all things, which is why they moved the show near the end. Smallville being big on the WB is like being the shiniest turd in a bag full of S*** as that network has used b-level shows to "anchor" itself since 1995. It's starting to seem to me that even if Spielberg had directed SR, and Christopher Reeve (RIP) rose from the grave to sport the cape again, it still would've under-whelmed at the box-office. I'm feeling more and more depressed about the state of my country when Superman gets even less respect than Rodney Dangerfield.

^^...I don't agree with anything you said, but I'd have to find some figures and facts to refute them. I do know LnC got top ranking for it's time slot and figured well financially for ABC until it got too corny. STAS was created to shoehorn a new Batman cartoon...Batman Beyond. Supes recieved a lot of critical praise, but I'd have to look for figures to see where it ranked on WB when it aired. I do know it was a high ranking show on CN when it showed there it plays well for Boom, but I don't have figures.

LOL...You may not likes those shows, but my point is they sold successfully and still do. The DVD sales for STAS and LnC have been good...and I would say better than expectation. I don't know about Smallville, and I agree it's a shiny piece of turd with a gorgeous Welling as the front man :)

LOL...your post made me laugh though...good end to work day...:)

from what I remember, Abrams script for Superman was amazing. It had some fundamental flaws, but they could have been easily adapted to fit the mythos a little better (the Luthor, possessed by an alien bit, really, they could have just given Luthor a bit of kryptonian tech (just like in birithright)).

everything else that I remember was great. My only concern was that this movie pretty much delivered all the marbles, and would have been difficult to make a bigger and better sequel. This is a franchise right, not a single serving movie. I didn't think abrams script would have worked well in a series of films. But as a standalone, it was mint.

Actually, in the 3rd draft that is what happens, sort of. Luthor is passing through Smallville fresh out of college and on his way to beginning work for Metropolis Industrial and discover little Kal-El's rocket ship before Jonathan Kent can return for the ship. We find out later that using the technology in the ship, Lex buys out Metropolis Industrial and starts Lexcorp, all the while Clark grows up truly never knowing where he is from or who he is, and it's the reason the Kents tell him to never use his abilities because they know that someone else is aware that there is an alien on Earth.

Im one of the few people who know about the 3rd draft, if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

I sometimes wonder this myself.

I thought L & C was pretty corny to begin with (even though I did watch every episode because, yes, I am a turbo-nerd deluxe). I just didn't like the overall flavor of it, but that's another story. Don't get me wrong, I love STAS and have the DVD sets, it just wasn't a pop-culture penetrator like some of its contemporaries, even though it damn sure should've been.

It's just too bad looks don't always equal acting talent or I'd be happier than a pig in s*** when watching Smallville.

What is worse is that somehow they don't know their planet is in danger? Oh wait they get a warning and EVERYONE ignores it? Hmmmm. Never bought it.

Thats a good point. Look at our planet, we are not even sure if the planet is being hurt, and if it is being hurt we arent sure humans are responsible and can change it....but everyone is still freaking out [global warming]. But an advanced race like the Kryptonians didnt have people like the environmentalists or democrats?

I never said it was pop culture penetrator. I said it was succesful for its time. And, considering WB didn't think it would be succesful at all, it was actually more successful than anticipated unlike SR. Its success helped launched the new Batman cartoon...and STAS' success as well as BB's success helped launch the JL/JLU.

I love the way TW looks, but...well...I'm not really convinced about anyone's acting abilities on that show except for Rosenbaum...who is also the Flash on JL/JLU. So, of course, I already like him and think he's great.
