Jack Reacher: Never Go Back

Surely we will start getting some reviews for this in the next few days?

I know the kid subplot was in the book, but it was a horrible choice. The kid is the worst part of the movie.

It's the typical give the hero a kid subplot.

I just think it's too early in the franchise to introduce something like that. We are only 2 movies in.

Strange, the first one was great, and Zwick is a good director so surprised this is getting bad reviews.

Saying that, quite a few movies that have had bad reviews this year I have enjoyed, so I will still be seeing this.

Man, this year has been brutal to movie sequels on the critical side. Obviously, some exceptions (Civil war, Star Trek Beyond) but largely not a good year for franchises.

We can add The Conjuring 2 and seemingly Ouija 2 to that list (how about that with Ouija 2. That first film is awful, but they got one talented SOB to direct the second film)

Yeah it was definitely too early. Just for example, when Lee Child did this story, there was already like 13 books if not more for this series. We've only had one Jack Reacher movie before this one.

I haven't read the books but am intending to start. But yeah in movie terms of definitely feels too early. In hindsight they should have chosen another book to adapt. Oh well, maybe if we get a third movie they can go back in the timeline or something and do something set before this movie.

This felt like it should've been Jack Reacher 7 or something. Not bad though, even a weaker Cruise effort is pretty damn good, sheerly thanks to his presence.

Jeremy Jahns didn't like this also Chris Struckmann thought it was average. Shame really i liked the first.

Jahns' criticisms are pretty accurate, however I couldn't say I was bored and I certainly disagree Cruise was phoning it in.

Will still be seeing this even though it seems a step down from the first movie. Me and critics have not agreed a lot this year.

Only read one of the books. Saw the first movie on TV and thought it was okay.

Dull from start to finish, not terrible just very uninteresting. Wasnt a big fan of the first to be fair but this is a flat tyre compared to the first. 5/10

Never go back indeed....

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back brought in an estimated $8.9 million on Friday and on pace to finish with $23+ million. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back scored one notch lower than the "A-" the original received, receiving a "B+" from opening day audiences.

Saw it today. As someone who has read 6 of the novels (and love them), I thought it was pretty generic. The first film was bolder and had far more interesting story. This one... it was fun but a bit dull. The subplot they included (won't spoil) doesn't suit Reacher at all.

One thing that they keep missing it the investigative aspect of Reacher. In the books, Reacher has a similar mentality to Sherlock Holmes. They way Child describes Reacher's thinking is simply awesome. He spends pages to describe what a situation in a couple of seconds will be and how Reacher will react to it while re-thinking every possible detail that will happen and the way he can respond to it. This is what made me a fan of the novels - Reacher's intelligence and the way he deals with everything.

Here, Cruise is downgraded to a generic action hero. The "smart" aspect of the character sort of misses. He runs, fights and has cool scenes, but never for once you have a moment where they show how incredibly smart the character really is. The first film suffered from this as well.
