M. Gives Bond the orders, but who gave them the best?

Bernard Lee played M from Dr. No to Moonraker..he actually died before any of his scenes in For Your Eyes Only could be filmed.

Brown from Octopussy to Licence To Kill

Dench was the boss in GoldenEye to Skyfall

Fiennes from SPECTRE to present

Lee, but Dench isn't far behind him. Skyfall is the single best film for M, but I think Lee was more consistent from film to film. I wasn't a big fan of Dench's portrayal in TWINE or DAD where she was too trustworthy and gullible. Not the strong woman she was in GE or the Craig films.

I have to say, it's kind of hard to vote for anyone other than Dench. Her M was the first one to really play a role that was relevant to the plot besides just briefing Bond on his mission at the beginning, especially in Skyfall.

Easily Dench, IMO.

Nobody can cut Bond down to size like she can, and she was the most whole character out of any M, especially in Skyfall.
