James Cameron's Sequel to "AVATAR"

I think whats interesting is that Cameron says there will be "some" underwater stuff, as if its not even a major part of the movie.

Would be pretty crazy if the oceans are really just a backdrop (like the mountains in Avatar), but they still go through hell in order to make those scenes work

This was pretty cool. Wish there was a higher quality version.

It was actually from a youtube user (I can look up the name for you if you want) but they set the video to private. Luckily I snagged the video and upload it tinypic. The video is in HD however it was made using cam versions of the movie. I can upload the video on megaupload if you want, just hit me up with a PM.

What happened to that prequel novel Cameron was writing for Avatar that was going to explain more about Jake's twin brother and Quaritch's early career?

I think there will be SOME exploration of Pandora's ocean's, Cameron loves that type of stuff, so its only logical he will explore that part of this world he has created. However, as the technology is so hard to do, he just limit the amount of time he spends exploring the oceans.

I am certainly intrigued what the story will be now.

‘Avatar 2′ & ‘The Wolverine’ Productions Disrupted By Japan Disaster

The big selling point of Avatar 2 has been James Cameron’s claims that the film will explore the oceans of Pandora. In fact, the director – as ambitious and meticulous as he is – had even floated the idea of diving into the Mariana Trench, the deepest known part of the world, which is located in the Pacific Ocean (to the Southeast of Japan). There, Cameron planned to do research and filming on the trench that he would use to create the underwater world of Pandora, using new 3D camera technology that would allow him to film in the treacherous deep-sea environment.
Obviously, with major earthquakes and tsunamis striking the region (and continued seismographic instability), Cameron’s dive is now a risky venture. Corona Coming Attractions has a source claiming that Fox is not willing to risk the potential danger to the divers and even Cameron himself, as the insurance coverage for such an expedition is now too high, given recent developments. The fact that aftershocks from the quakes could continue to keep the region unstable for years to come is also not a promising sign. Needless to say, Cameron may have to rethink his approach to the Avatar sequel.

they created a whole forest in the first movie. but here they can not model and light Mariana Trench?

As far as i know , the Marianna Trench isn't something that has been explored alot. SImply because it's the deepest point on earth.

James Cameron And Arnold Schwarzenegger Reunite, But For What Purpose?

http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/arnold-schwarzenegger
Arnold Schwarzenegger is coming back to acting. This we know. We also know that James Cameron is locked-and-loaded for two developing sequels to "Avatar." Throw those facts in together with Cameron and Schwarzenegger's "Brazilian adventure" and you've got… well, a whole lot of conjecture. Let's pedal back a bit. Last night on Twitter, the former Governator posted a curious photo of himself and Cameron, his longtime collaborator through "Terminator" and "True Lies," huddled around a laptop on an airplane.
"Excited to take off on a Brazilian adventure w/ @JimCameron," he wrote. "Stay tuned for updates from the rainforest."
Schwarzenegger's tweet got us wondering — might that "Brazilian adventure" have something to do with a little planet called Pandora?

That would be pretty awesome if Arnold was in the next one.

I don't see why Cameron can't just film the next Avatar in a different part of the ocean. It doesn't need to be in the Mariana Trench.

its still crazy from Cameron.

noone knows what down there. so its not like we would notice if it was fake.

second its not like Cameron needs Avatar2 budget to do down there. he is rich enough to go there without a movie. crazy.

Cameron actually comissioned to have a sub built just to go down there.

Im sure him wanting to dive there has more to do with his own interests as an explorer/diver than it does with wanting to use that footage for Avatar 2. There seems to be a lit of misinformation, as I dont recall Cameron ever saying that diving to mariana trench was related to filming for Avatar

There are plenty of dots to connect. Not necessarily relating to Avatar either.

Remember the appeal video on the end of the Avatar DVD about the Belo Monte Dam construction project?

And the publicity when the project was halted?

And remember how the 'Governator' pushed for a cleaner, greener California with moves to cut carbon emissions?

It doesn't take too much dot-connecting to see a pattern that connects these two individuals outside of movie-making. :cwink:

He's not filming Avatar in the ocean.

I'd rather see Michael Biehn than Ahnald, tbh.

He said he needs to find out how to do motion capture underwater and there was mention of him wanting to go to the Mariana Trench. Maybe I misread it, but it sounded pretty clear to me.

EXCLUSIVE: Stephen Lang on Avatar 2 and Terra Nova

http://www.movieweb.com/news/exclusive-stephen-lang-on-avatar-2-and-terra-nova

"I had dinner with him about a month ago. We spent the evening together and we talked about it. I know he's proceeding and I have no doubt that Avatar 2 is going to be great and every bit as jaw-dropping and exciting as Avatar was. As to my own relationship to it, I can't really say anything about that, at all, other than I'm just proud to be on the team. Whether I appear in Avatar 2 or Avatar 3, I always feel I'm a part of the Avatar team. I know that's a non-answer, but that's it."

i hope he does not get back.

forward movement is important. he was a good villain and he died. end of story.

i will pay money for the sequel. for that i deserve a new story and a new villain. forward movement.

When you're the king of the world , you don't go for the 2nd best :cwink:
Plus it's reference footage that will be filmed. The whole thing will be created in computers anyway.

The mo-cap underwater and the Mariana Trench are 2 different things.
Filming in the Mariana Trench wa smore because they wanted reference footage and since a (large) part of Avatar 2 will take place under water , they wanted to see how they could mo-cap actors under water.
Besides filming actors that deep is suicide anyway because of the pressure .
However knowing Cameron he'd probably do just that :awesome:

James Cameron Seeks Inspiration in the Brazilian Forest for 'Avatar' Sequels

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/james-cameron-seeks-inspiration-brazilian-171606

James Cameron said to AFP on Thursday that he's considering bringing in the cast of the Avatar sequels to Brazil's Amazonian rain forest so they will get in touch and be inspired by the place and its many indigenous tribes. "Avatar is a film about the rain forest and its indigenous people. Before I start to shoot the two films I want to bring my actors here, so I can better tell this story", said the Canadian director, who is currently in Manaus attending the second International Forum on Sustainability. "Actors could learn about the natives and what real life in the jungle is like", he said, although no information about the sequels' cast was released yet.
The Forum also features Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bill Clinton, and is organized by Brazilian company SEMINARS and promoted by LIDE (Brazil's Business Leaders' Group), which includes 750 associate companies that together represent 46% of Brazil's private GDP. Schwarzenegger presented the debates with Cameron under the rubric "Public Policies that Favor Sustainabilit", and his presence sparked collaboration rumors earlier this week when former the former California Governor twitted about his "Brazilan adventure" with Cameron and posted a picture of them together on an airplane.
On Wednesday Cameron reportedly took Schwarzenegger to the Xingu River, where he had spoken out against the construction of hydroelectric dam in Belo Monte last year. "I introduced him to some of the indigenous leaders whom I met last year," he said.
The next day, Cameron talked to a small group of journalists after having dinner in a restaurant together with five members of the caiapo tribe, including chief Raoni, who baptized Cameron with the name "Krapremp-ti", a term for "man who is s friend of the jungle", according to Globo newspaper. Cameron told reporters he would use that name on a character in the Avatar sequel. "If I had met the caiapos before making Avatar, I would certainly have made a better film", he said.
