James Cameron's Sequel to "AVATAR"

If this summer was lackluster, then last winter was twice as bad. Even having one diamond in the rough can make a movie season worthwhile. Cameron is pretty much saying Avatar will be what makes this movie season not a lackluster, which is ********. Inception and Toy Story 3 have already done that. Hell, just Inception alone has made this summer a good one IMO. Dinner for Shmucks was great too and so was Scott Pilgrim. Last winter we had Sherlock Holmes and Avatar, and in all honesty, Inception and Toy Story 3 are both better films than both SH and Avatar.

the winter is neither here nor there for me but I expect great things from the summer.

that Titanic was made so that Cameron could go on deep see expeditions . and now he wants to go to the deepest point of the ocean because of research of a blue alien planet?BS. he is going down there because he can go and because he is a science fan at heart.

down there its pitch black. and for a movie on Pandora everything will glow. so the enviorment will be 100% different. the plants will be inspired.........but news flash they were already in Avatar 2009.

IMO it has almost nothign to do with avatar 2.

funny that you said that some actors will be to old when all the main characters in the Avatar sequel will be CGI and blue :)

Yea I wonder how interesting the story can get. Something like The Last of the Mohicans?

i think with the sequel he will do something more original.

he again said that two sequels will be done togehter. boo :o:down

Makes sense from a technical and financial point. AND in regards to setting a timetable for JC. Im sure he has other movies he wants to make.

Keep in mind that JC has been working on a general roadmap for a Trilogy since at least 2006, and he's repeatedly said that he's very mindful about creating the sequels as movies that can stand on their own, ie no unsatisfying cliffhangers or anything like that.

If theres any director in the world I trust with a sequel its JC :o

Avatar Sequels Four Years Away

James Cameron to pen scripts next year with the first sequel set to hit in 2014.

UK, October 27, 2010

Big news on the Avatar front, with Twentieth Century Fox announcing release dates for a pair of sequels.

Speaking in a statement, Fox Filmed Entertainment Chairmen Jim Gianopoulos and Tom Rothman revealed that James Cameron will begin work on the scripts early next year, with a view to releasing Avatar 2 in December 2014 and Avatar 3 in December 2015.

There's no word yet as to whether Cameron will shoot the films back-to-back however, with the writer-director making that decision once he has finished the scripts.

"It is a rare and remarkable opportunity when a filmmaker gets to build a fantasy world and watch it grow, with the resources and partnership of a global media company" explained Cameron. "Avatar was conceived as an epic work of fantasy - a world that audiences could visit, across all media platforms, and this moment marks the launch of the next phase of that world.

"With two new films on the drawing boards, my company and I are embarking on an epic journey with our partners at Twentieth Century Fox. Our goal is to meet and exceed the global audience's expectations for the richness of Avatar's visual world and the power of the storytelling.

"In the second and third films, which will be self contained stories that also fulfill a greater story arc, we will not back off the throttle of Avatar's visual and emotional horsepower, and will continue to explore its themes and characters, which touched the hearts of audiences in all cultures around the world. I'm looking forward to returning to Pandora, a world where our imaginations can run wild."

there goes the next 10 years for cameron...

i give up on that guy already...im convinced he'll never give us a movie we really want.
its clearly about money.. and shoving 3d down our mouths now.

im hoping avatar2 bombs... they suckered people into seeing it the first time with the blitzkrieg marketing campaign making it out to be the movie of a lifetime. nobody cares now.

Who is this "we" and "nobody" you're talking about ??
Avatar was the first "real" 3D movie, the tech used was/is good stuff, no gimmick.
A lot, I mean, a lot of people went to see this movie again and again for a reason, because they loved it not because of the marketing.
Don't hate for the sake of hating.

Well, i'm glad we are getting 2 more sequels, but not really happy about them being shot back to back (Matrix and Pirates sequels immediatly spring to mind and both were shot back to back) and the LONG damn wait! The Avatar EE will have to tide me over until then but man is it going to be tough waiting for these sequels!

Wow could you be any more delusional?

So much wrong in one little paragraph. First off, Avatar's box office run was a purely word of mouth deal. The marketing campaign on the run-up to the release was pretty lackluster compared to other recent blockbusters. Secondly, Avatar 2 will probably have the biggest opening weekend ever. People love escapist entertainment and no one makes better escapist entertainment than James Cameron.

"I don't like this movie and I don't want a sequel so I'm going to assume everyone agrees with me despite all the evidence to the contrary."

^pretty much.

I just fail to see how making a 3D movie (before they became the craze they are now) if shoving 3D down "our" mouths...especially when you have the option to watch it in 2D. Also since when is making a big budget blockbuster NOT about money?

I absolutely hated the first, but you know what I'm going to do? Not watch the sequels instead of complain about them. The club isn't exclusive any of you uninterested folks can join too!

lol if this movie was released by any other director... i think people wouldnt be praising this bland unoriginal movie.

yeah it made 2billion.. thanks to the cameron name and insane marketing. I mean they are literally still showing a million ads for Avatar on tv..(cellphones, 3d tv's, etc). Word of mouth did contribute... but not people saying it was awesome.. just people telling each other that they must see this huge cinematic event. The most i ever heard from people regarding the quality was that the visuals were pretty good.

not sure how it not only got nominated for best picture but was getting all the buzz of actually beating hurt locker and winning. I would imagine a best picture nominee(especially a potential winner) would have to at least get some sort of screenplay or acting nod too. Ingourious basterds and district 9 both had not only great screenplays and acting but were original, just like hurt locker. The only reason explaining its nomination is its box office success, which after the dark knight uproar of it not getting a nomination probably caused them to include avatar.

but w/e... that aside, who here really cares to see more of this dull story? especially instead of cameron directing something new and original?...worthy of the title "groundbreaking". lol

I cannot even stand the word Avatar anymore. For me, it has become like a synonym for extremely commerical piece of **** movies. Disgusting.

Can the "hater" please avoid this thread ?
