reading some comments on the internet. and whats funny is that Pete Jacksons opinion about 3D and higher frame rate matters more then Camerons. and only because Avatar's BO.
Are you implying that Avatar gets most of it's hate because it was popular? :wow:
Because if you are, you're correct.

What i didn't like about Avatar was all that love for a movie that just copyed a story done to death and receiving aclaim just because of the special effects, i wouldn't see Michael Bay receiving so many good reviews if he himself did the film and revolutionized the 3D, it's just because of James Cameron that critic liked it.
Now i think the sequel will be more promising, Cameron always makes exelent sequels, but will he be able to do a good 3rd movie? It's his first time so we'll se in the next 10 years.

So you admit you don't like it because of the praise it received?

Remember that i'm not the guy you were talking with, and i didn't i don't like it, what i admit is that it didn't deserve all that aclaim, in fact it shouldn't have been nominated for best picture.

If you are saying that it's because the story has been done many time before, then you should really know that almost every movie today has a story that was "copied" from something previous.

Star Wars wasn't exactly the most original story either. A very traditional fantasy-saga at the core.

People point out that the story wasn't original, use that as an excuse for why the movie is horrible, but forget that just because the story was unoriginal, it doesn't mean it was badly told.

Exactly. I'm an animation student and from many of my peers I've heard these tired arguments parroted back in writing classes, character design classes, etc. And then I have to speak up and say, "just because a story has been told before, doesn't mean it can't be told in a new or interesting way. And Avatar, much like a little film series called Star Wars, has been innovative and moved the industry into new territory, all while telling stories which have been told in some form or another." Does Avatar deserve the acclaim it has received? Yes, not for story, but for how the story was told.

I'm going to sit this sequel out, boys. The first one just didn't wet my whistle. Try to prove me wrong all you want, and call me crazy, but the CGI didn't blow me away, the 3D didn't impress me, the story was dreadful, the acting was atrocious. Yeah, no thank you.

Thank you for telling us about something that we can do nothing about. We are all very impressed that you refuse to partake in something popular. Bravo!

I'll be sitting this one out as well until DVD. I don't see why Avatar (2009) was so special. I was bored from everything except the action scenes.

You know the Spiderman films were not exactly the pinnacle of film making, right? I mean, the first one was great and then, down, down.

I think people often mistake what is popular for what they expect should be perfect.

If Cameron is hailed for capturing piss-poor performances (in ALL his movies), writing sub-par dialogue and stories, and basically being a Michael Bay that critics actually like, then yeah, I guess Cameron's doing really well. And it took him 13 years between Titanic and Avatar, based on a script he wrote in 1996?? The story and dialogue should've been the LAST thing that anyone complained about. :whatever:

And Spider-Man 2 > Spider-Man.

What do the Spider-Man films have to do with Avatar? I'm simply stating Avatar is overrated, and I don't know why that bothers you so much. And it's obvious because you mentioned the Spider-Man films. Cameron is a fantastic director, this was just not one of his best films, IMO.

Frosty would really have his mind blown if he looked at the proposed Spider-Man film by James Cameron. Yikes. :csad:

I mean, I think Cameron is an awesome director, but I just feel Avatar was a complete miss. Terminator, T2: Judgment Day, etc, those were great.

If the film missed for you, that's one thing, and your more than entitled to your opinion but you can't deny that it struck a chord with a worldwide audience, thus why it went on to become a financial phenomenon.

The critics loved it, the academy loved it, and the general public made it the highest grossing film of all time.

And yes, Cameron's Terminator films are great. To me, Terminator will always be Cameron's signature iconic creation. Terminator, T2 and Aliens are three of the greatest sci-fi/genre films of all time.

While this may be true, you should factor in the fact that alot of people were clamoring it up to be the next Star Wars, which IMO, it never even touched.

It's not that Avatar was bad, imo. It's just that it was essentially Pocahontas. In space. It's not that it was bad, just the story was unoriginal.

Avatar's success was based strictly on it's fantastic word-of-mouth. It only made 77 Million in it's opening weekend, so it didn't have a record breaking opening.

It wasn't until after word-of-mouth from people who had already seen it kicked in, and when the second weekend came around, the film barely dropped and almost stayed flat, which is almost unheard for blockbusters.

It's word-of-mouth had everything to do, with it's success.

Heh, you don't like it but you've still already made your mind up about watching it when it comes out on DVD. Why not watch it at all?

Avatar is loved by most people...if not it wouldn't make all that money. Its a good movie but it could have been a GREAT movie easily. Just look at District 9, the essentially have the same basic story yet that came across as far more original than avatar.

Despite so I still love the hell out of this movie because it was one of the most fun experiences I've had at a movie in a long time and I think most people feel this way too. I cannot wait for the sequel and will be there opening day. After The Dark Knight Rises this is my most anticipated movie
