James Cameron's Sequel to "AVATAR"

You can't compare worthington and saldana with leo and winslet because both went in different directions with their movie choices.

To be fair, there was no way Worthington would be doing Breacher or Thunder Run if it hadn't been for Avatar and those are two films I'm really looking forward to.

3 years later and i still think that Sam Worthingtong is charismatic..............in interviews. i think that he makes a choice to not use this charm in movies. i think he is naive enough to think that thats what people whant from him.

plus Sam needs someone to get rid of that strong accent. James Cameron made 2 jokes about his accent. at first they wanted Sam to be an obvious american in Avatar. they tryed to get rid of the accent but it was impossible in the last months before filming. but he is no Arnie. everything is possible. the accent needs to go and he needs to be charismatic like he is outside of movies.

He should just keep his natural accent actually. It's be easier for him to loosen up in front of the camera when he's not struggling with an American accent.

Hence why his roles have been so limited. If you can't do a decent American accent your Hollywood career is pretty stifled unless you just do particular roles.

aussie accents are hard to hide imo more so than the brits look at hemsworth still has a thick accent probably why he wont be playing an american havent seen cabin so cant judge it there

even crowe has a hard time with it

hugh jackman is probably the best at hiding it tho

even ledger's accent slipped at times

Definately agree with that .
Being cast in Avatar definately opened doors for Worthington. But Hollywood saw that he isn't able to open a movie on his own.

well they may be right worthington does have a rough manly look same as jackman, hemsworth, eric bana, guy pearce, mel gibson and crowe himself must be something in Australia :yay:

I dunno in what context they were talking but i just don't get that leader quality with Worthington. Jackman , Bana , Gibson and definately Crowe have that booming voice you need portray a convincing leader. Not to mention that they could all kick my ass :oldrazz:

4th film talk already haha.

4th film talk is really really weird considering it's been a long time since we heard anything about the SECOND one.

Yeah it's being filmed sometime this fall.

I know that many people hate James Cameron but you have to admit that man is committed to his vision and it is difficult to execute something on a grand scale as Avatar and it's sequels, especially if there is no source material available to him like books, comics etc.

And I have no doubt that Avatar 2 will be a success, I am not sure about Avatar 3.

Avatar 4 may not happen at all.

Isn't he making some kind of encyclopedia or something regarding the Pandora universe?

You mean this?

He's already went into great detail of the world by naming plants, animals, and of course the navi language. It's clear from the very start he had the universe figured out.

I have to agree. Worthington is just really...bland. How he got Avatar? I don't know. If anything, avatar was a star vehicle for zoe saldana (and we never even saw her real self). Both are, however, inferior actors to Leo and Kate. Sam is horrible, Zoe is good but not great (although I can see her becoming a better actress over time).....but still they landed the better of the James Cameron roles because unlike Titanic, Avatar is having TWO sequels so they're going to be making crazy bank with those two films. Both will probably be able to easily retire by the time Avatar 3 is out.

Even as one who loved the first movie and the world of Pandora, I'm not sure him planning so far ahead as a fourth movie and a prequel at that, is a good idea. Make 2 and 3 back to back and then take some time off from Avatar and do something else would be my advice. To avoid the whole thing from getting too jaded even for the fans of it all. I also don't think the prequel idea sounds very interesting and more forced than anything.

They're locked for at 2 sequels but i doubt they're getting alot of money.
Definately not 20 million dollar paychecks.

Well, with a better cast, better writers, better plot, better dialogue, drop the hippie themes, have nothing to do with Avatar and renamed to "Terminator 3" this could actually be decent.

Not sure a prequel would be a good idea, the first movie, especially the extended version, told us enough of how the Na'vi and humans didnt get along anymore, dont think we need to see it really.

First contact between the two species would an interesting thing to see, but this could just be a flashback in one of the sequels.

Actually, actor salaries are highly negotiable even if they are contractually obligated for future films. This is why Tobey Maguire (spider-man) and kristen stewart (twilight) are filthy rich right now. So being that its the literally the highest grossing film as of now, I wouldn't be surprised if they both got that much for avatar 2 alone. Studios don't want to make actors feel cheated if there is a possibility of even more films in the future so they usually renegotiate contracts if the first movie makes huge bank at the box office. They might call it a "bonus" but a bonus for staring in a highly successful film could be millions of dollars

James Cameron Creating Ocean Ecosystem for Avatar Sequels

Source: Max Evry
September 10, 2012

Producer Jon Landau last week clarified that they would be shooting the second and third "Avatar" films back-to-back, but that they were not working on the fourth film yet. Then James Cameron revealed that, if the fourth film was indeed to be made, it would be a prequel.

Tonight, we got a chance to talk to Cameron ourselves and asked him more specifically about Avatar 2 and Avatar 3. The filmmaker made an appearance at Best Buy in New York's Union Square on Monday to discuss the new Blu-ray release of Titanic.

We asked him, since he had touched on themes of oceanographic exploration in Titanic, The Abyss and his documentaries, what aspects of that did he have left to explore in his upcoming movies.

"We're doing 'Avatar' films now, so we're making up an ocean ecosystem for Pandora," Cameron said, "That's gonna have less to do with the deep exploration that I've done than it has to do with my concerns about conservation of Earth's oceans. The fact that we're basically overfishing, climate change... a few degrees of temperature rise are gonna basically take out the coral reefs. All those beautiful images of the coral environments we all grew up with won't exist in 50 years at the rate we're going in terms of pumping greenhouse gases into the environment. These are the things that concern me."

He added that "there isn't a direct map between the deep ocean exploration that I've done and the ocean stuff that we're doing in the 'Avatar' films. However, I'm going to continue in the future making documentaries and continuing explorations stuff as well because I'm always fascinated by that. We don't have to explore the coral reefs at this point because we understand them very well. We also understand that they're dying and they're ultimately doomed if we don't change our profligate ways.

"I hope that explains it, 'cause people have connected the dots directly together. 'Oh, going to the challenger deep has a direct connection to what we're going to see in Avatar 2,' and that's not the case at all. It's all the scuba diving I did before I even started the deep ocean stuff that has more of a direct connection to Avatar 2 & 3, which by the way won't take place completely in or under the water. That's just part of the environment of Pandora that we're going to see.

Twentieth Century Fox was targeting a December 2014 release date for Avatar 2 and a December 2015 release for Avatar 3.

I'm a fan of Avatar but don't think we need a prequel.

We need one to explain why Pocahontas and her people became permanently blue.

Actually the prequel sounds like it's got the most potential out of all of them. Doesn't sound as simplistic.

What's with the bombardment of Avatar news over the past few days? I wonder if they're closer the making them, than they're letting on?
