DC Television James Gunn's Suicide Squad’ Spinoff Series ‘Peacemaker’ Starring John Cena on HBO Max

It does seem like we are headed in that general direction...

The interesting thing about that Earth 2 comic is a that it forced the heroes into a scenario where they couldn’t just fight their doppelgängers (and ultimately they couldn’t really “win” per se and just had to let things turn out for the worst). I’m guessing that wouldn’t happen in this universe but it would be an intriguing route to take.

Noticed you can see Vigilante’s eyes through the visor now. Kind of wonder if the reason you couldn’t in S1 was that there were parts where he was being played by another actor entirely.

Deeply intrigued by the thought of more Superman characters, beyond just Guy and Hawkgirl, appearing this season.

I remember being rather awed by Momoa and Ezra Miller (2022 was a long time ago, leave me alone :o) dropping in on the first season finale. Imagine how much more could be done with Gunn running the show.

Yeah I honestly don’t know why people are struggling with this…

My thought is that you can just look at it like how they adapt comics for films. Just because they lift an idea from a comic doesn't mean the whole story from that comic is canon.

Flag Jr is in SS, dies in TSS and is now relevant to Peacemaker S1/2. But that doesn't mean every event of SS is canon. Jumping to that conclusion takes more steps lol Flag Jr is only relevant because he's mentioned. As far as full on erasure goes, its pretty much just Miller and Momoa at the end of S1 and that's easy to ignore imo.

I’m holding out hope that Kinnaman comes back to life as Flag and makes appearances in the DCU. I know his death is important for Chris’s arc, but I love Joel so much that it would just be fun to have him be a regular part of the new DCU. And it could be interesting to see his relationship with Rick Sr. and how their two leadership styles compare and contrast.

I’ve been dreaming of Gunn doing a limited anthology series (Danger Trail!) that focuses on some of DC’s (mostly) non-super powered secret agent type characters. The Flags and Waller could factor into that, and it could line up with that Deathstroke movie they are making too.

King Faraday: Anson Mount
Human Target/Christopher Chance: Manuel Garcia-Rulfo
Jonni Thunder: AnnaSophia Robb
Nightshade: Stephanie Hsu
Arsenal/Roy Harper: Kit Connor

Given how this season is dealing with alternate universes/pocket dimensions, I feel like the easiest solution would be to just say that there are now two versions of Season 1. There's the original DCEU version, where that Peacemaker went a different route after the events of Season 1. Then there's the DCU version, where similar events took place, and that this is the Peacemaker we're following heading into Season 2.

I get the thought to literally address it, but I feel that just brings up more confusion for people. I think the whole dimension aspect is gonna be mostly about character work and Peacemaker's choices/guilt/whatever and less DCEU/DCU canon ****.

Granted, the podcast where Gunn addresses the continuity is only one episode deep, but I feel like it will more or less all boil down to “All that Justice League-related stuff never happened.”

Luckily, Peacemaker as a character is so far removed from any of the big deal characters in either universe, that you can pull that kind of a retcon without the whole thing crumbling down.
