DC Television James Gunn's Suicide Squad’ Spinoff Series ‘Peacemaker’ Starring John Cena on HBO Max

IMG_6066.jpeg

At first I thought maybe Waller/Checkmate, but this sounds more like he might be the lead… maybe taking another crack at the Suicide Squad? As a series, perhaps?

Really enjoyed the first episode. Yes, I could have lived without the orgy scene... I do understand it has a point though, it's not just there to exist. I've just never been big on that stuff in movies anyways haha.

Can't wait to see where it goes from here! I loved how they reshot a certain scene lol!

Did the orgy HAVE to be there? Well. I have to say, it never felt gratuitous, and I also never felt like it focused on outrageous stuff, as I was fully invested in Chris' feelings ( and it created a beautiful contrast of his coping mechanisms not really working).

Great premiere for season 2. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store. The “previously in the DCU” intro and retcon was handled perfectly and makes the most sense. Loved it.

P.S.:

I think I now know what the Superman sequel is gonna be. And it's not gonna be just a Superman/Supergirl team-up.

So I have not been able tol watch it yet, but I can't help and ask what your theory is lol.

Spoilers, everyone. You've been warned.

i don't know, just seeing the Justice Gang feat. Superman and Supergirl in the revised opening made me think that that's what the sequel might end up being. Maybe even with Peacemaker on the team.

Wouldnt be surprised but i hope they are not going to skip a proper superman sequel.

Hoping this season is a hit and soon we can have a pretty steady flow of DC tv too. Lanterns i have a lot of interest in at this point. Hoping it delivers on the potential.

Seems the final 3 eps will be surprising in some ways...

So how confusing will it be if I just skip Peacemaker season 1 and go straight into season 2 after Superman? I never had any interest in the DCEU and I want my DCU experience to be pure.

It might take a bit of research but you should be OK. Truth be told outside of a cameo Peacemaker S1 is not DCEU heavy and is great tv.

Season 2 pretty much just made all of S1 DCU canon except for like 2 scenes so it would make more sense to just start at S1 tbh. Nothing about the style or approach to the show has changed from season to season.

Gunn may or may not have teased that Blue Beetle could pop up here. Maybe a young mentee could help propel Peacemaker on the path of seeing himself as a hero even moreso than being accepted by the JG.

And on the "this season on PM" snippet after the episode, they had Flag Sr talking about visiting an inmate in Belle Reve, smells like Luthor to me.

Perhaps, but it's still DCEU and not DCU. Just a series of events in the DCEU that happens to closely match how things went in the DCU.

So how confusing would it be if I just start with season 2?

Idk about confusing but it would certainly be less rewarding since you miss the whole emotional growth journey Chris went through last season. 🤷‍♀️

Yeah that's unfortunate, but I'm not really into the whole idea of watching a DCEU project while thinking the whole time "this isn't actually the universe I care about, but just an uncannily close approximation of events that occured mostly the same way in a completely different universe that I don't care about at all".

Just wondering if the intro of season 2 is designed to work as a jumping on point or if it's absolutely not.

Why is Economos still with Argus while Harcourt and Adebayo blacklisted?

Yeah I’m a bit confused why Harcourt got completely ousted but they’re all good with him. Adebayo makes sense since she’s the one who went public but I’m not sure why Economos didn’t get swept up in it while Harcourt did.

Let me put it to you this way… aside from one scene at the very end (which was just retconned) and a couple of jokes here and there, very little in Peacemaker season 1 connects to the DCEU. And a lot of the things that do (like Amanda Waller’s appearances) are also canon to the DCU. So if you skip it, you’ll be missing out on some great DCU material. Not to mention that if you just watch season 2, you’ll miss out on all the character growth and development in season 1, so scenes in season 2 won’t have the same impact. And again, these are all DCU characters now so skipping season 1 just avoids DCU content more than anything else.

Going back to Economos’ speech at the end of last season, I think he tends to get missed or overlooked. Harcourt was held in higher regard by Waller, so I think there was an expectation that she would watch out for Adebayo and keep ARGUS’s best interest in mind.

Granted, I haven’t watched Season 2 so this is just a guess based on season 1.

Yeah that is a good point. He probably kinda flew under the radar.
