DC Television James Gunn's Suicide Squad Spinoff ‘Peacemaker’ Starring John Cena on HBO Max

Not hugely surprising, considering we’ve got both his dad and his killer in the mix, and a parallel universe on top of that.

I actually thought he might drop in on the first season, outside of just a flashback using archival footage of the movie.

Still wild how that came and went despite being like 10+ hours of content

I’m pretty sure this came out at SDCC, but Gunn has said at the premiere that they kept episodes 6-8 from the critics to keep some surprises intact.

Considering his incarceration at Belle Reve and pocket universe business this season, I’m betting we see Lex at least.

I’m torn. I could get down with them making individual intros like that, but I also get the logic of making Superman their MGM lion.

In terms of both comic book superheroes and superhero movies, he’s where it all began. I’d hype that up too.

I like the idea of making the OG Superman DC's MGM lion. Let's stick with that.

Yeah I agree with you both ultimately it just works that way better.

Wait. So we're just going to pretend the events of Season 1 just happened in the DCU. Like just forget you saw the DCEU Justice League and act like he just saw Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner instead?

Lol this confuses me more.

Literally how?

The broad strokes of the story still happened in the DCU, just with the superhero team that is available to them.

Relax pal I liked the whole flippant "we're just gonna roll with it" way it's handled, I'm not criticizing it. It just amuses me how it'll cause me to overthink it, like for example now I don't know what pieces of say The Suicide Squad outside of Rick Flagg Jr's death happened in DCU and I'm needlessly thinking hey is Margot Harley and King Shark in the DCU? Is Capt Boomerang dead in this universe? It's not important but that's I suppose the fun and tomfoolery of it all.

EDIT: I would get a serious kick out of it if James Gunn pulled a George Lucas and stealthily updated the Season 1 finale with the Justice Gang along with references to them with the original episode lost in the ether.

Awesome first episode.

i was a little concerned with the Harcourt bar fight at first.. I was like “oh man, they’re doing this again? “ But she didn’t win this one, so I was ok with it. This is obviously going to be a season about her and Chris overcoming their personal demons. That final fight was one hell of a way to end the first ep! Can’t wait for next Thursday already.

The setup for this season is so much more interesting than last season imo. And no, I don't mean from an "interconnected universe" standpoint, but from a character one. Taking a character with a lot of inner demons and literally giving him access to an alternate dimension in which he had none of those (and conveniently killing off the version of him that's supposed to be there) is such a great premise imo.

Kinda reminds of S3 of Farscape a little bit, with the setup of the two Crichtons.

Awesome premiere. Gunn wasn’t lying when he said that different shows and movies in the DCU will feel very different from one another and I love it. If anyone thought Peacemaker’s show wouldn't be a hard R after the very family-friendly Superman, this episode proved that theory wrong lol.

Anyway, lots of interesting stuff here and I’m excited to see what this new universe holds for Chris.

Also, just an interesting theory about where things could ultimately go in this universe. Screencrush speculated that Michael Ian Black’s Tucker Carlson parody character might actually be Glorious Godfrey…

Peacemaker’s opening dance was interesting. I have to see it a few more times before I get a feel of it.

Gunn just ripped the bandaid off and retconned Peacemaker out of the DCEU and into the DCU. Wasn’t what I expected but it works for me.

Gunn does a real good job of making you feel for his characters. Chris meeting his brother again was heartwarming.

Good start. Not what I was expecting. Way different from season 1.

I want to just skip to episode 6…… If this was a binge show I would have watched it in one night.
