Horror James Wan's "The Conjuring"

Just watched this for the first time, and while the theme of haunted house has been done to death i do think this updated a lot of elements, some scares for example were very creative.

I know the Amityville case has been done to death, i would like to see James Wan's take on it, not to mention that the Warren couple is usually absent from the adaptations, it was also their most famous case, so it would just feel weird to pass on it.

I'm trying to agree more with you. I can't.

I'm not as interested in Amityville mostly because it's been debunked so hard. I mean, I'm most interested in a good film, so if it's a good horror film I won't mind it, but it's always cool when you know there's some truth in the story they're portraying. (And I say some, because the Conjuring took obvious liberties with the actual story).

Not only that, but Amityville has been done to death.

Whatever direction this new Warrens-centric franchise takes, James Wan has pretty much said he is done with horror for a long while.

So I just watched it for the first time the other day, I was pleasantly surprised.

After seeing both this and Insidious Chapter 2, I have to say that I think The Conjuring is better. Not that Insidious C2 was bad, but The Conjuring just felt creepier and more atmospheric and IMO worked better as a "scarier" movie. Wasn't really a fan of the humorous moments in Insidious C2. Can we just agree that Leigh Whannell should just stick to writing and not acting? :p

The Conjuring is definitely going up on my list of favorite scary movies and for me beats out everything else that Wan has done.

The Conjuring is about one of the best theatrical horror films of the decade and simply one of the best haunted house movies ever made. It's an old fashioned ghost story done right. Taking points off simply because these films are abundant is missing the point. Every single aspect of this movie has such confidence to it I can hardly think of anything that felt out of place. This isn't a cheap boofest that strings you along with fake pop-outs. This film builds proper suspense and dread before it throws something scary at you. The wardrobe scene is one of the most expertly timed scares I've seen in the theater in a long time. The scene where the daughter see's something behind the door (which we never see what she see's) is so damn scary because of how simple it is. It relies solely on the performances and directing. The cast, the cinematography, the editing, the period detail, the FEAR! Its all so damn well put together.

9/10

I don't think it's even the best haunted house movie of 2013 (The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh being better). I do like The Conjuring well enough, as it is a better done version of the same movie I see at least twice a year in theaters from the major companies. I admit that I'm biased because the real life investigators are such frauds.

I do think that that a sequel involving Amityville would be the obvious go-to choice...but it's just been so done to death that I think people are tired of it. Maybe just do a strong sequel, then go to the Amityville well for a part 3 (or 4 or 5), if The Conjuring name alone becomes strong enough to be its own ongoing franchise.

This movie conjured up mixed feelings for me. On one hand, I love the beginning of the movie when the scares are subtle and sweet. But then when the ghosts start jumping out and s**t, the movie loses its charm for me. I don't know, but I just don't like those types of ghost movies anymore. Another example I can think of is that devil guy from the first Insidious.

I did like this movie enough to give it a 7/10, though.

The Conjuring 2 - Teaser Trailer

[YT]watch?v=KyA9AtUOqRM[/YT]

Sky Atlantic did a mini series on The Enfield Poltergeist starring Timothy Spall back in September

I had forgotten about this until I stumbled upon a reaction to the trailer on YouTube. I cannot wait.

I still don't want a sequel based on Amityville if they keep these going. I have beliefs in the paranormal, but that case has been analyzed to death, and the conclusions, especially on the Warrens, pretty much show that the case was fake. Much like the original film, it could be entertaining, but I at least liked to be fooled when it claims to be based on a true story.

I'm sure the Warrens have plenty of cases that could be used.

The interesting thing is Ed and Lorraine came in AFTER the family left the house, I think. So it would be the first true film to look at what happened after the fact.

Amityville actually plays a huge part in this movie. It's this movie's Annabelle case.

Awesome, that's great to hear and an excellent idea.

First off let me just say that I'm a huge Ed and Lorraine Warren fan. I live in CT and visited Lorraine's house when she has talks, I've seen the famous basement with the Annabelle doll, I've been to almost all of her speeches when they come around every Halloween....

From what I'm reading most of the things in the Conjuring 2 are false..

Apparently the Warrens were one of several investigators to visit the house, and they were only there for a few hours and really didnt do anything. Also many of the creepy things didnt really happen and this haunting was considered many to be a hoax... the girl levitating off her bed? she jumped and they have pictures to prove it... its even said that Ed said he could make money off this case if they wanted to

I'm all for having another movie featuring the Warrens, but I wish they did another case. Maybe the Lindley house or something. This one is billed as one of their most famous cases, but no ones ever heard of it and it really wasnt their case

heres a link to an article http://www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/conjuring-2-enfield-poltergeist/

Im all for having Hollywood take liberties to make movies, and dont expect it to be a documentary, but I hate when they have a piece of a story and fabricate tons of stuff around it that isnt true... Like the Annabelle movie...if they did the true story about the doll it would have been awesome, but making up a backstory was just dumb
