Dead Silence(Saw director James Wan's new horror flick)

Saw it last night, it was pretty good. The ending kind of felt flat and rushed, but not bad. I saw the Saw dummy in a corner of the place and kept pointing it out to my friend, who kept saying; "Yeah, it does look like it, they should sue."

Keep in mind, I told this friend 5,539 times it was made by the Saw people. :csad:

the mega redeeming quality this movie has is how original it really is, and refreshing, it still suffers from the same attention to detail, and my high school production value acting that alot of horror movies suffer from (I said before Donnie Whalberg acts circles around everyone, and while I think he is great, that isn't something you really want in a movie), but what would a horror movie be without it? The ventriloquest doll, the actual good method of making a ghost story, I think it is pretty good

I think it is like James Wanns cirtification into the horror genre, I don't think it was quite as good as Saw, but the fact that he has made two of the most original horror movies of the 21st centery, puts him in the top 5 new horror directors in my book

I liek Saw 1-3, but I did not enjoy Dead Silence. It kind of felt like Darkness Falls to me, which I would prefer then Dead Silence. The trailer looked good, but for some reason the movie wasn't catching me. There were some points that I liked, but that's about it. I like the fact of dummies being in a creepy/horror way. Remember Goosebumps, Night of the Living Dummy series?

I am a huge fan of urban legend type stories. I didn't have a chance to see the film in theaters, but I just rented it and thought that it was great. 8.5/10. Some of the acting wasn't that great, but the story itself really came off as a ghost story you'd hear around the fireplace in a good way.

I think the review Darth Elektra posted, written by Jason Adams, more or less sums up my thoughts on the film:

"I didn’t think DEAD SILENCE was all that terrifying in a “keep-you-awake-at-night” kinda way, but Wan definitely knows the elements to at least creep you out. It’s as if he took everything that scared me as a kid—possessed ventriloquist dolls, demonic old ladies, scary clowns—and threw it all in a blender. It’s no THE SHINING, but there were enough creepy goings-on to create a tense atmosphere and chilly mood, as opposed to just relying on the usual “boo” scares. That’s definitely where Wan showed some filmmaking chops. Aside from an effective visual palette, I appreciated the use of ambient sounds and, um, silence as tools to frighten you. And the SAW-esque twist at the end felt a little familiar, but overall it worked for me."

Yeah, the ending did feel a little familiar, but as he said- it works. I expected some kind of twist having heard that there is one... but, I never expected that twist. Very eerie.

Overall, as I said- I'm a huge fan of urban legends and ghost stories and 'Dead Silence' managed to capture that scary feeling of hearing a good ghost story around the fire place.
