Horror James Wan's "The Conjuring"

Now THIS is a horror movie. I'm the 'Insidious' and 'The Conjuring' kind of guy over the 'Paranormal Activity' ("it's all in what you don't see") kind of guys. Mainly because 'The Sixth Sense' goes completely against that and was the only film that ever truly traumatized me and the only supernatural films that have ever gotten near that are his. Seriously can't wait.

Eh, the same thing happened with Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.

What's crazy is that Wan has another film coming out about 6 weeks after this, Insidious 2.

Insidious 2 was bumped back to September 20.

Great name for a Highlander sequel.

I saw the Conjuring last night. It is pretty good. The movie does a really good job of introducing all of its characters including the family that lives in the haunted house as well as the Warrens, the paranormal investigators. It is really easy, if you are willing to, put yourself in the necessary headspace to level with these characters and feel fear on their behalf. This is something so many horror films fail at with offputting or non-existent characters that instead render waiting around for people to die the only entertainment value of the film.
This movie actually took an interesting turn as I was expecting it to be more of a ghost movie, which it certainly is but it kind of morphed into something else. This movie does not hold back. They may say that the film was aiming for a pg13 but man this thing continually ramps up the intensity throughout the film and really by the end I agree that it earns its R rating. I was really surprised with how far they took certain things. In recent horror films, such as The Possession I've been disappointed by how mundane things remain almost throughout the film, not the case here. James Wan really knows how to build a scene. There are a few elements that kind of come off as red herrings and some odd dead ins on the side but those side plots are still really entertaining. For those who liked Wan's Insidious I think you'll definitely like this but for those who weren't much for that film I think that you'll still like this film. Its a bit more straight forward and serious than Insidious was. I expect this film to have pretty good word of mouth and do quite well for itself, or at least it deserves to. I highly recommend this movie for a night out with friends.

Getting great reviews so far!

Seriously its one of the best reviewed films of the year so far, certainly of the summer .Its kind of bonkers to see.

Looks like we have a horror classic on our hands

We'll see how well it is really remembered but it will definitely be making a few best of lists at the end of the decade. Its pretty refreshing. This movie doesn't half ass anything.

So far this film only hast two negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Both reviews just comment on the fact that many of the elements in this film have been used before. Neither takes note of how well they are employed here.

Sounds right up my alley. When you say "took an interesting turn", does it mean it has a similar twist in the tale as Insidious? (I don't mind being spoiled!)

And would you say it's scarier than Insidious? All the previews seem to indicate so.

Horror films are all about the execution and build-up and the other schematics that make a horror film work.

And please stay away from excessive CGI.

More of a matter that it movies full speed into a horror sub genre that I was not expecting.

I'm so psyched for this movie. I've been reading up on the Warrens and their different cases. Never knew that one of their cases was the famous Amityville Horror House.

The movie is worth the hype guys, really.

Not the scariest movie ever made...but this one's special.
