Jennifer Garner has officially signed on to star in Jason Micallef’s political satire Butter for Mandate. The Nicholl Fellowship-winning screenplay was listed at the #3 spot on the 2008 Black List (a listing of the best unproduced screenplays of that year).

Described as Election meets Best in Show, Butter tells the story of a black orphan who is adopted by a Midwestern family, and discovers she has an uncanny talent for butter-carving. She finds herself up against Laura Pickler (Garner), the ambitious wife of the retired reigning champion, turning a small town’s annual butter-sculpting contest into a center for controversy and jealousy. Jackman, Silverstone and Wilde Board Butter

Variety and Movieline have learned that Hugh Jackman, Alicia Silverstone and Olivia Wilde have joined the cast of The Weinstein Company's Butter, which starts filming later this month.

To be directed by Jim Field Smith, the comedy follows a young orphan who, after being adopted by a Midwestern family, discovers she has an uncanny talent for butter-carving. She eventually finds herself up against the ambitious wife of the retired reigning champion in a town's annual butter-sculpting contest.

The film is produced by Jennifer Garner, who also stars as an ambitious Midwestern woman trying to win a local butter-carving contest.

Jackman portrays an old flame of Garner's character, while Silverstone will play the adoptive mother of a teen girl (Yara Shahidi) who becomes a major contender in the butter-carving competition.

Ashley Greene plays the step-daughter of Garner's character.

Wilde is taking on the role of a tattooed stripper who is also the mistress to a term-limited butter-carving champion (Ty Burrell).

Sexplosion!

I would rub butter all over Jen...and Olivia...and Alicia...

Oddly the little girl in Butter is also in Salt.

There is something profoundly wrong with Hollywood.

it sounds like an original great film

he film is set in the Midwest U.S., where an adopted girl (Yara Shahidi) discovers her talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against an ambitious local woman (Jennifer Garner) in their town's annual contest. Hugh Jackman, Alicia Silverstone, Ty Burrell, Ashley Greene and Olivia Wilde also star.

I thought this was related to Salt. HE-YO!

But seriously there is a good cast behind it

Probably just as mediocre though.

is Olivia Wilde official the new it girl?

A movie about butter-carving doesn't sounds that appealing but it a good cast so it might has the potential to turn out good.

From what I've read, it's supposed to be a spoof on the Hillary vs. Obama faceoff during the 2008 Iowa primaries. This was in NY Magazine a few months ago when Hugh was cast:

Vulture has been avidly tracking the Weinstein Company's Butter, the Black List–featured comedy that employs the annual Iowa State Fair butter-carving contest as a metaphor for 2008’s Hillary versus Obama showdown. Movieline reported today that Olivia Wilde has stepped in to replace Kate Hudson as the stripper who seduces Ty Burrell’s carving champ. (Butter’s shooting was going to bump up against Hudson’s other project, Something Borrowed, for which we hear she’s being paid $10 million. That’s a lot of Parkay, as they say. Actually, wait, no one says that.) But we also hear that Hugh Jackman is now in talks for the role of Boyd Bolton, the sleazy car dealer who seduces Burrell's character's wife Laura, the hopeful new butter champion played by Jennifer Garner.

Personally, we're intrigued to see how the Christian Coalition will react to the scene (excerpted below) in which Jackman prays to the Almighty in gratitude after an illicit interlude with Garner.

It sounds like it's going to be really funny.

So, we've had Milk, Salt, and now Butter.

There's still so many ingredients left to use that Hollywood will never run out of ideas.
