Due to the editing of the trailer, some shots of Bale came off as comical. One second he's protecting children, the next hes drunk looking with a cigar in his mouth!!

Yeah the editing was bad.

According to the footage shown at TIFF, Bale is not really a priest. He's a mortician pretending to be a priest to protect the school children. So I suppose the raunchy scenes are where he's not pretending to be the priest in front of the Japenese.

Yeah this pretty much sums it up. The trailer needs to be edited to have a better narrative. It looks too random and scattered specially for those who have no idea what this movie is about. They need to show some things like what the role of the prostitutes are, why Bale's character is pretending to be a priest, etc.

I don't think Bale's role is as large as the trailer makes it out to be. Pink Ranger said the protagonist is actually some Chinese soldier who's barely in the trailer.

He he, thanks for the support, but keep in mind I am just speculating. My reasoning is based on the fact that China has entered it into the foreign language Oscar category, meaning that unless Christian Bale is some kind of genius who learned fluent Mandarin in a year, most of the movie will depict Chinese actors speaking Mandarin in a different plotline.

Also the fact that I doubt the state-controlled Chinese cultural institutions would allow a movie like this to be made unless it depicts the Chinese army in some kind of positive light. When it comes to WW2 cultural impact, Nanking is roughly equivalent to Auschwitz for Chinese people.

That makes sense. The movie is apparently 60% Mandarin and 40% English. I think big key parts of the movie will revolve around a soldier and maybe one of the prostitutes.

That's a really cool poster. But it looks strange that it says that it's "starring" Christian Bale. I think they could have just put his name there and we could have figured out on our own that he's acting in it and not directing it or something, lol.
