BvS Jesse Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor - - Part 11

I think the only problem, and it's not an Eisenberg problem, was fleshing out Luthor's motivations as others have stated. But that's it. I thought he was brilliant otherwise, and the rooftop scene was excellent.

Didn't bother me anywhere near as much as it bothered some people. Frankly, I was happy to see a new take rather than the real estate crook. Yes, I wanted to see the scientist business man but this moment in time I wanted to see different.

I didn't think Luthor worked in this movie at all. I did not get his motivation, did not get why he was doing most of the things he was doing other than he was crazy and evil. And the performance was just annoying to me. I'm all for trying new things with this stuff and I have to give them credit for thinking outside the box but it didn't feel like Luthor or even a particularly compelling character. It felt more like the Joker with the random acts of destruction and the, uh, hyperactivity. And the allusions to Darkseid were tacked on and didn't need to be there.

I really missed the suave, deceptive Lex who could appear as a political and economic leader while still being consumed with jealously and egomania. One whose history with Clark and kryptonite (his head being shaved in prison was lame) leads him naturally towards villainy.

Agreed. This was worst Lex Luthor yet.

Maybe for a cameo. Maybe. I can imagine Batman will want to have another talk with Luthor about how those bells can't be unrung.

I thought Jesse was surprisingly good. He wasn't the best villain I've ever seen, but he was pretty effective when he needed to be. My only main gripe with the film is not his motivation for hating Superman (which to me made perfect sense), but his overall plan and how each piece happened chronologically. I've seen the film twice and I can't fully explain the White Portuguese, the import license, the capitol bombing, the stealing of the Kryptonite, and everything in Africa. Even after multiple viewings it's pretty damn convoluted. Does anyone else feel like they have a good understanding of it?

I know people say he isn't but he so is. Especially when he reveals his "plan" to Supes and when he and Supes are in the scout ship. It felt like I was playing an Arkham game and Riddler became the main villain.

Me neither. I think the hair looking like Carey's is just leading people to that comparison. Plus the acting silly in prison stuff...but Carey's was funny, Lex's is foreboding.

Since when was Riddler/Joker putting security contractors in Africa, building towers in metropolis and messing around with alien technology to uncover power and knowledge?

Seriously, it's like some people are so focused on the line delivery, that they aren't even looking at the character's actual actions.

This Lex is quirky and theatrical like those 2 rather than totally professional and businesslike. I mean I like it but I would also like regular Lex Luthor as there are less professional villains than nutjobs lol, especially in Gotham.

Even the line delivery wasn't Carrey's Riddler which was terrible high camp. I didn't see that with Jesse. He was a quirky, genius mastermind that is an unstable sociopath when you get down to it whose interactions, regardless of how much he tries to charm, reveal an overweening smug self regard.

He just didn't feel like Lex at all to me. He wasn't terrible but I think if this was a stand alone character than it would have been better. It wasn't just Eisenberg's fault though, Terrio clearly doesn't know Lex and the writing shows.

The Turkish Airlines Lex was great...
I wonder how many Lex moments were cut? Perhaps there's a scene or two which hints at more traditional Lex?

I want Jesse's Lex to go from the above to the one in the bottom...

I want to see Jesse's Lex evolve to be much more confident and actually very convincing in his speeches. It has to feel natural but evil and not psychotic as you have seen him be in BvS. It was a good take on Lex, but he should evolve.

My only complaint was Jesse was high pitched and his voice didn't sound intimidating, his dialogues did though. I hope in the upcoming movies if he appears he sounds a little different. I want Jesse to almost give a deeper voice, not too deep because that is unrealistic. But deep enough to see he has changed to a matured calculated business man.
