I can't believe some people are been so negative towards Lex and not just on here. Seems to me some people simply don't like Eisenberg which to me shouldn't be a bad thing either cause you're supposed to hate Lex. Although I also think some aren't happy that he got the role over other rumoured choices.

1: I'm actually very fond of Eisenberg as an actor in general.

2: I don't think you're supposed to hate Lex. I think getting the audience to hate your villain is a pretty shallow and short sighted goal when crafting an antagonist for a story.

3: I'm not happy that he got the roll over other rumored choices because I think he's wrong for the roll.

I'm a fan of Eisenberg and i've always been open minded about his casting as Lex.

But something just doesn't seem right with this portrayal. It's simply not what i want to see from Lex Luthor.

To the people saying he reminds them too much of him as Zuckerberg, well that's probably why he was brought on?

It's really his only notable "semi-villainous" role to date and they probably liked the idea of Luther being a 21st century tech mogul type ala Zuckerberg.

Can't say I'm elated but I wasn't expecting anything totally drastically different from Eisengerg really.

I know there were some people here who actually though he was going to get jacked for the role.

We've only seen a few things from Lex Luthor and IMO he's doing the job because U are wanting to hate him. Lex Luthor is a guy you pretty much hate because he's pretty much an ***hole but he's a villain you love to hate.

That's like every villain ever though.

The Lex I wanted to see was the Lex obsessed with being the perfect human in mind and body and obsessed/infuriated that Superman would always be better than him.

Eissenberg doesn't look like my vision but I'll reserve full judgment after I see his performance.

It's odd. People already know Lex will be bald and that his nature is likely to change based on that, but somehow they're still making sweeping judgments based on scenes that are clearly prior to that event.

1: A character's personality going through drastic changes because he goes bald has got to be the lamest character motivation I have ever heard.

2: The trailer is supposed to sell me on the movie. In the trailer, Eisenberg's acting is obnoxious and bad. I am not sold. It's fairly simple.

1. It's not about going bald, it's about the nature of the event causing it and his reaction, dunce.

2. I'm glad we've gotten the opinion of the only objective acting critic to ever exist.

3. Consistent numbered responses to posts is obnoxious and bad.

Let's all cool down. No one needs to get too hot under the collar.

Still haven't warmed up to this casting, even after what I just saw in the trailer.

How do you know what the nature of the event causing it will be.

Also, how do you know that it will cause a shift in his personality, and in what way?

Also, please don't call me a dunce.

2. I'm glad we've gotten the opinion of the only objective acting critic to ever exist.

Do you really need to jump down my throat for not prefacing every single statement I make with "in my opinion?"

3. Consistent numbered responses to posts is obnoxious and bad.

Fair point.

Considering it seems to be the most common complaint about the trailer, I think it goes beyond just the people who doubted the casting to begin with, or don't like Eisenberg or would have preferred someone else. I'm sure for some people one of those might be the reason, but not for everyone.

Nothing would have made me more happy than to see him shine in the trailer and I still hope he does in the movie. Lex Luthor is a great character, filled with tons of potential to be great on screen. Unfortunately, I never thought Eisenberg was capable of living up to that potential and after this trailer I can say that he's playing the role pretty much exactly as I expected he would and it's just not what I was hoping for when it comes to one of the greatest villains in Comic books. When you're on the doorstep looking forward to an all new DC Universe, you start to imagine what the characters will be like and how you would like to see them portrayed, I wanted the Joker and Lex to be reoccurring characters in this new DCU, showing up a few times each. I wanted them to headline the villains of the DCU and play huge roles across several movies. So there is no doubt that I wanted anyone who was cast in those roles to succeed. Unfortunately, this is just basically the opposite of what I was hoping for with Lex.

I thought he was pretty bad in the trailer, definitely the worst of anyone shown in the trailer. Of course, that's just me refusing to give him a chance according to some. :whatever: I have kind of the opposite view as you, I can't believe how some people watched that trailer and thought he was good. But as always, to each their own and I don't begrudge anyone that thinks he's going to be great or loved his scenes in the clip. I just don't feel the same way.

I think I'm in the minority here but I'll throw my 2 cents in for whatever it's worth.

Upon initially hearing of Eisenberg's casting I was outraged. I thought "What a great way to mess up a great character!".... Then I see this and I have to admit, though the look isn't perfect, he certainly has that sadistic eerie yet collected vibe that Luthor possesses. I'm on board.

It seems like some people are judging the performance based on what they hoped for, rather than what we've all pretty much known we were getting. Eisenberg pretty much showed what I've assumed we'd see, only seemingly with a bit more fun. I'm into it.

Ultimately, I just want the characterization to work for the film. It being similar or different to another iteration I may have wanted to see doesn't really make difference.

I like Jesse in the trailer, he looks annoyingly intimidating villain.

He look sadistic, and I think the Lex character knows he's sadistic. I'm sure he tries to convince himself he's doing the right thing but has an awareness that he really does do bad things. I think Eisenberg hits that nail if that's the Lex they're after.

1. Fair enough

2. You are supposed to hate the villain though, it's good versus evil at the end of the day

3. I don't get when people say actors are wrong for a role before they've even seen the version they're playing. Looks to me (from what little we've seen so far) like he's perfect for this version.

But agree to disagree shall we?

Nearly every reaction bad I've seen has been because eith Eisenberg doesn't fit what they wanted in the character or they don't like Eisenberg or that he was chosen over someone else. End of the day it's about what the filmmakers think is best for the film and Eisenberh seems to fit the character they have gone for. It's as simple as that, it's not what certain people wanted so they don't like it. Which is fine, it's one of my biggest hang ups with the Dark Knight Rises but I admit the problems with that (well done of anyway) are mine because it's not what I wanted.

Of course we all have our own opinion and I do respect yours.

Exactly

I completely digged Eisenberg in the trailer, and I loved his line at the end.

"The red capes are coming....the red capes are coming"

I swear, I saw a completely different trailer to some of the people in here.

Jesse's Lex and some of the CGI shots are the only negative things I found in the latest trailer. Not saying hes gonna be bad in the movie, but I was not convinced by his acting and his look in the trailer. With the proper context, things will look different.
