The Dark Knight Jim Gordon Email

It IS Salvatore that was on the menu. Not Maroni.
As far as it being slang.. I ignored that bit. What I listened to was the tone and inflections of the speaker...

"Make it a baker's dozen this time, Capiche?"
It's used in a tone that seems threatening.
I do know that they mention the Crepes thing in the voice mail..
on the menu is
"Crepes Casino"...

Laundered Money...
Crepes...
Bakers Dozen...
Capiche?

-Right. It says Salvatore. We're talking about the Gotham mob. Because of that, common sense tells us to associate the first name with the last name. Maroni is Gotham mafia. And seeing as how this site was discovered directly by way of a GCPD money laundering investigation.... Well, you do the math.

-Just because an Italian says "Capiche" doesn't mean it's meant to be taken as a threat.

gee did you try "baker's dozen slang"?

Why the hell would I do that? I don't care what baker's dozen is slang for. It's pretty obvious what it's in reference to in this situation. It's code for a pick-up or exchange of some sort. Probably money.

Besides. The chances of the term "baker's dozen" being in any way consequential in this situation are slim to none. So why are you making such a big deal out of it's "slang" meaning?

To "give a man a baker's dozen," in a slang sense, means to give him an extra good beating or pummeling.

If you say so. But the origin of the term has to do with bakery. And since pastries we're also mentioned in the same sentence.... Again, you do the math.

there's got to be associated content inside barhyte's emails regarding the number of the gp######### wiretap.

gotham tonight posted the number leading to the arrest of rossi. perhaps we'll need to review last week's and tomorrow's episode.

If there is a wiretap. Which, to accomodate the fact that we're doing this over the internet, there probably will be. But they also mention surveillance. So we could also be talking about a video feed.

No. I think we all agreed Pasquale=Frenchie.

No, that's the conclusion you're coming to.

Dismissing Pasquale as Frenchie "just because" is a fool's errand. He may very well be Frenchie. But we don't know that for sure. And aside from the name being mentioned on adminstrator voicemail of Pasquale's, we've never been given any reason to believe that. If this place is a front for a money laundering operation, and especially by you're logic, there's a very good chance that Pasquale isn't the guy that's in charge of that operation. Which leads me into this:

We were discussing whether or not Frenchie is has mob-ties, as it relates to the use of slang...

Wow. Do you really have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that Pasquale is the front man for Maroni??? Holy Jebus, people. Does anyone else out there have any backround and/or education in law enforcement?

What you claim is under discussion is actually whether or not Pasquale has ties to organized crime. And at this point, I'd say it's pretty damn obvious. Pasquale's Bistro is under surveilance by the GCPD. That right there tells us that, regardless of the level of involvement, Pasquale is somehow involved with the gotham mob and it's money laundering investigation.

Would the mob be comin' after Frenchie for a "Baker's Dozen". First we need to verify a use of slang term. In this instance: cockney.

First of all: "Baker's Dozen" in Cockney slang means "Cousin." Second, how do you associate an english form of slang with italian mafia? Do you have any idea what you're talking about?

I say Frenchie/Pasquale is not directly related to the mob. Just happens to be the poor sucker they're using for a front. And he did something wrong.
Just like Fred.

Wrong.

You don't even know who the "fred" they're talking about is at this point. How he wound up in the river, or even who he may have pissed off to get there.

And again, if a money laundering operation is going in and out of his business, whether by his choice or not, he is directly involved in organized crime.

Do you have any idea of how a money laundering operation works?
Because it doesn't sound like you do. So do yourself a favor and go here:

http://money.howstuffworks.com/money-laundering.htm

It's a crash course.

What you're talking about: Men threatening an individual with physical harm unless payment is delivered, especially if this indivual has nothing to do with organized crime is a completely different animal. And it's called extortion.

http://reference.howstuffworks.com/e...cyclopedia.htm

I'd suggest you educate yourself before you go making any more assumptions. Because what you're saying right now is so completely off in left field that I'd have a hard time figuring out how you can understand it.

-WsS?

Hey WSS - seriously - stop with the stupid hostility.

I agree with you on most of this stuff, but attempting to make people feel stupid because they don't know as much as you is childish.

On the Fred topic - I think it's Frederick Alderick - asphyxia is the definition of drowning. It could be that they're tying that all together - it never said anything (that I remember) about fred dying in the hospital. We (i think) assumed that the Joker (or whoever) smothered him in his hospital room - maybe he got him when he was released.

hehe - WSS knows I love him - we just all get worked up sometimes. I'm sure that he doesn't mean any harm.

Let's keep the rest of this on topic - we're getting near the end here and I want this to kick ass for all of us.

ROFL...

Watch out .. WSS might hulk out. :bh:

so now that WSS has had their li'l pissy tempertantrum over a BS discussion that THEY WEREN'T APART OF...

can we get back to the facts at hand?

Nah. No green freaks here. It's all good. I just wanna pull my hair out when I read some of the theories and/or leaps in logic that I've read. With the career path I've chosen, attended college for, and still continue to work towards, they just don't make any kind of sense whatsoever. And they never would. And though it may seem like it, that's not a brag. It's just where I'm coming from. But then I have to step back and realize that most of the people here probably don't see things from my point of view.

Apologies. I'll try to restrain my tendency to rant from here on out. And I'll also try to remember that this is supposed to be fun..... Which it is. But I'll admit. Even ranting is fun at times. =p

****Attempts to feed a dead horse meat....****

I think that the use of "bakers dozen" here means that they expect something extra to make up for what went wrong, or in case something goes wrong. It usually means 13 instead of 12, but what it actually means is "a little more than usual" or "more than you expect". It could apply to a beating, or pastries, or anything - it just means a little extra of whatever you are talking about.

As in "I was expecting a few comments about this subject, but instead I got a baker's dozen."

yeah - I also tend to think (along with other folks) that the relevant points are this:

Frenchy, Pasquale or whoever is into Money Laundering
The two Maroni goons were supposed to go there for a pick-up
The Joker kicked their ass, but prolly got whatever info he needed from them

I normally like to delve too deeply into that stuff, but I think we're just supposed to know that Pasquales=Money Laundering=Trouble.

We still love you WSS

thank you for the apology, WSS.

Ekricket:
Yeah, but what I was trying to point out, is that in the voice mail, he makes it sound like a threat, "I want more than last time, or else!"...
So I had to take a moment to pause and ponder the unlikely... why would goodfellas be threatening each other?

Have you ever seen Goodfellas or Casino?

Not Casino (or if I did was smashed)

I haven't seen Goodfellas in yeeeaaaaars. So, no, not recently.

but I'm not asking about examples... I'm wondering what the reason is, and if there's some kind of allusion to it somewhere in the viral. And whether or not that might play some kind of factor in the whole thing...

but i'm probably diggin' holes just for fun.
