Haha. I hate his work so far, but the guy is hilariously honest. It's something very few people dare to admit; a lot of early comics are absolute crap compared to "modern" standards. The ideas are classic and often brilliant (proven by their endurance through time) but a lot of the actual dialogue, captions, and art is dreadful. They can be defended in that they were pioneering the way, and comics have been built over the last hundred years by generations working off the shoulders of the previous generations' giants. Same goes for film and television.
No one should make a blanket statement like "ALL old things suck" because they don't, and not all new things rule, either (quite the contrary). But there's a huge stigma today against anyone who criticizes "old stuff" - they're immediately labeled as moronic or ADD-riddled, unable to comprehend stuff that isn't of their time. That's definitely the case sometimes, but not always. You should criticize something not simply because it's old, but because it's other qualities, those that transcend time, do indeed suck. No art is sacred, not even old art. Art doesn't get a free pass just cause it was made yesterday and not today.
