The story of John Lennon is headed for the big screen with Nowhere Boy, a biopic that will be directed by visual artist Sam Taylor-Wood, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Produced by U.K.'s Ecosse Films, the script from Control screenwriter Matt Greenhalgh will focus on the Beatle's childhood and subsequent journey to icon status. Filming is set to take place on location in Lennon's hometown on Liverpool.

Greenhalgh's script details the story of Lennon as a lonely teenager growing up as his aunt and the mother who gave him up fight for his love. His only escape is music, art and his fateful friendship with Paul McCartney.

The project is currently casting for the major roles.

I personally would rather see a movie about the Beatles than just Lennon specifically.

Lennon had the most "dramatized" life out of all of them so it makes sense that Hollywood would want to focus on Lennon.

at least be thankful they're not going for the whole franchise

Kate Winslet is rumoured to play Julia Lennon (His Mum) , I think she will rule, with Emily Watson also attched to play her sister.

I hope this movie is good. They better not **** it up.

Please don't whitewash this. I want to see Lennon hit Cynthia in a jealous rage, I want to see him kick Stu Sutcliffe in the head, I want this to go to his dark corners.

okay...so lets get into it...who should play lennon?

So what was Across the Universe all about... Mccartney biopic or what?

I hope this turns out good. I've seen a couple of films I the past that have been pretty good regarding him: Back Beat, and Two of us - although the latter was probably only enjoyable because I am such a Lennon fan.

As for who plays him - James McAvoy, maybe?

Across the Universe wasn't about the Beatles specifically, it was just a musical that took place during the 1960s that used Beatles songs.

I love John Lennon (and the Beatles) so a movie is inevitable, I just hope they do it right. I can sort of picture James McAvoy as John? Maybe?

Bring back Paul Rudd! He was John Lennon in Walk Hard!:hehe:

John's the best Beatle!

I'm a bit more interested in who's gonna play Paul. Any suggestions?

COOL!! It will take the bad taste from Chapter 27 away... UGH!

Okay, for John:

Please be played by Jason Dohring.

You may know him better as Logan Echolls off Veronica Mars.

Picture his snarky brand of cool applied to John:up:

Also, he can play a wide range of emotions necessary for Lennon!

Picture him with a moptop and it stands.

Oh come on! Can't you see the facial resemblance, especially to young Lennon?!

****. They should just let me write and direct this. Guaranteed it would be 900 percent better.

I don't know whether that was passion or a man-crush.

I could see McAvoy as Lennon I guess....Michael Sheen as Paul

I loved I'm Not There, I hope they go in the same direction as that for John Lennon's arc.
