Vin Diesel has lined up a project at MGM called The Machine, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, from Night at the Museum writers Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, is officially described by MGM as follows:

[Diesel will play] a human-like machine created in secrecy by the Pentagon as the world's first true ultimate weapon. Twenty years after the project was buried and decommissioned for reasons unknown, The Machine is discovered by a kid who befriends him. When the government learns it has been reactivated, the Machine must protect the family harboring him.

In addition to starring, Diesel is set to the produce the project, as he has with several prior films, including Fast and Furious and Fast Five. He previously teamed with Garant and Lennon (as an actor only) for the 2005 comedy The Pacifier.

Peter Segal Boards The Machine

Peter Segal, who last directed 2008's Get Smart, is in talks to direct MGM's The Machine, Variety reports. The project was announced last year and will star Vin Diesel with a plot officially described as follows:

I thought about Solo as I was reading this then remembered Iron Giant,This is Solo meets The Iron Giant than Iron Giant meets T2!!

Does Vin even have an agent? Between this and Not Another Riddick Movie, he's pretty much making sure that the only movies anyone is going to see him in again are the Fast & Furious films.

Sounds like between this and RoboCop, they're trying to bank on the success of Iron Man/The Avengers, like Battleship was cashing in on Transformers.

I think Vin is self-destructive. It's almost as if he is TRYING to derail his career.

I imagine Vin Diesel reading a Choose Your Own Adventure book and saying, "That's it? Just two choices? Where's the 'jump out of an airplane without a parachute with your hands tied behind your back into a volcano' option? Just kill me already, this is taking too long. I need to do some bicep curls."
