The Dark Knight Joker Bank Robber mask inspired by Cesar Romero?

Whoa!!!!! So that tribute can be next to the first laugh, remember? When he arrives with the mobsters his laugh reminded me of Romero's, when he laughed at the camera at the end of some cliffhanger.

Maybe, but it was more like a sarcastic laugh. Just like the sound comic book writers write whe he laughs.

I can't believe that. What a great tribute. Brilliant design too. It's a creepy mask but you don't really know why.

I also thought everyone knew about this. The clown pic that you posted is of the "hobo clown" a character made famous by (comedian/actor) Red Buttons.

Actually I'ts Emmett Kelly, not Red buttons.

Guess you were wrong, then.

Either that or there's been a huge influx of new people joining the boards :)
I remember when someone first posted something like this up.

Chris Nolan grew up watching the 60's version of Batman so it's cool to see him paying homage.

I know, what I say is that it's his own version of that, like the mask which looks creepier than Romero's. Great easter egg.

Yeah, I remember everyone was talking about the homage back when the first pictures of the masked TDK Joker were posted. Also, watching that Adam West Batman episode, the Joker's hands are flesh colored during the scene where he's in the penitentiary (not wearing gloves). Interesting, because I'd always thought Cesar's Joker was permawhite. Could it be that Heath's Joker is actually more traditional than was previously believed? :cwink:

even though it was mentioned several times before, great thread.

i love the fact that nolan is paying homage to romero at the same time he is referencing pagliacci.

Thanks a lot. Weary Willie is the character he made. Everyday you learn something new.

Well back to the singing:

"Recitar! Mentre preso dal delirio,
non so più quel che dico,
e quel che faccio!
Eppur è d'uopo, sforzati!
Bah! sei tu forse un uom?
Tu se' Pagliaccio!"

Well, It was more likely just a mistake. The show was actually pretty faithful to the comics, despite being a satire.

I'm not so sure. I remember seeing clips before where you could clearly see the flesh between his sleeve and his glove, and it was also flesh colored there. But maybe they weren't planning on fanboys nitpicking the show 40 years later? :hehe: Still, that combined with his plain hand in clear view does make me think that Cesar's Joker was intended to actually be wearing makeup. Or maybe it was just his head that was permawhite. :P

I still think it was just carelessness. The producers most likely didn't think too hard about it either way.

"Look Bill, Makeup forgot to do Cesar's wrists!"
"Ah, who cares. Nobody'll notice. Besides, Cesar already spends too much time in the chair because he refuses to shave off that stupid 'stache! Primadonna actor."

As you said there's no way they could have anticipated the advent of the nitpicking fanboy.

Or the make-up work and the care for details were pretty lousy on the series, which is far more plausible.

snowball!!!

haha that gorilla was used as a reference for King Kong in Peter Jackson's remake.

Well, there's my useless piece of trivia for the day, now back to TDK...
