The Dark Knight Joker Hype!

I dont know if this needs a new thread but do you guys think we will see the joker in the teaser trailer and if so to what extent do you think it will be?

I hope so. I think that we may either get 1)Some form of indirect glimpse that gives us a tad more about what he looks like than the official photo, but still not really giving anything away or 2)No sign of Joker visually, but perhaps him talking and his laugh or something.

It's (oddly enough) surreal to me to think that we'll finally get to see something regarding the movie, it just makes it all the more "tangible".

Speaking of which, is it just me or does anyone else have a hard time seeing the Joker in the new franchise? I'm getting a better glimpse of it, but it is always interesting to picture this clown running around in the narrows!

I'm thinking like Citadel said earlier hopefully just a quick glance to whet our whistles. I actually would prefer your second quess which would be a laugh. That would tide me over for a while

It's interesting to see a guy in a Bat costume running around The Narrows too! :cwink:

See, I think people get hung up on the realism debate. Nolan's world isn't all "realism realism realism". The whole point of setting up a realistic, down-to-Eath, gritty Gotham in "Begins" was that it made a character like Batman feel all the more fantastic and unique.

The fanboys are going nuts over the smile and make-up.

I do think some are getting too hung up on the visuals. I hate when people say it's not The Joker, or it's not true to the character, just because he's different. It's like I said earlier:

Anyone suppose it is time for a Dark Knight Media Thread for the spoiler free side?

Not just for manips, but for all media. Teasers, posters, manips, etc.

I think I need to have a good talk with hunter about giving the Non-Spoiler board a major upgrade. We need to get past this image of it being the "lesser" board. That will make the transition to here in future months all the easier.

Yea, it needs attractions, otherwise no one will come back to it.

Incredible how dead this place has been!

Exactly! Not to mention, when he said realism he mainly meant he wanted their to be logical reason behind things, like why did the Scarecrow have a mask and whatnot. He didn't want there to be things of that nature just for the hell of it or just because it was in the comics.

I agree, and i hope it happens fast so that we aren't tempted to see what's going on in the spoiler forum! :hyper:

Glad you had a good time at Chicago. What did The Joker look like when you saw him?

it was pretty much those same pictures from the joker sightings thread. we were across the river so i just barely saw him. again off subject but does anyone know who that guy in the black cloak was? i saw a video online and it kinda looked like AMH

Hey, don't knock Jack Nicholson!

I don't like this line of thinking where you have to "choose a side". Jack Nicholson was a great Joker. He's regarded as one of the greatest movie villains of all time. All over the world, when people think Joker, they think "Jack". THAT is the hurdle Heath Ledger and Christopher Nolan REALLY have to overcome, not a cut-smile and make-up...

And I think Nolan is doing the only thing he can do, and that's aim at a completely different target. The character of the Joker is ripe for a lot of different interpretations. Nicholson was great for what that depiction of the Joker called for: a goofy, homicidal artist. It seems clear that Nolan and Ledger are going for a much darker depiction, though.

I'm psyched about that, but I hope the general public and movie reviewers who've never read a comic can get past the fact that it's not the 1989 Joker anymore. Nicholson's name will probably come up in every interview that Ledger does next June and July.

(Also: Good call on this thread, Keyser. Now go read The Dark Knight Returns already, there's a lot of great Joker stuff in there).

Im more excited to see Batman again and not feeling the hype for this Joker. Not into Ledger and its not because Im a Burtonite because I wasnt too impress by Jack's annoying Joker either.

Out of curiosity, what is it you don't like about Heath Ledger as The Joker? Is it his age? Is it what you think of him as an actor? Or are you fine with Ledger himself, but don't like the way he's being handled as The Joker by Nolan and co?

I have a question... In the videos of Ledger/Joker skateboarding, it shows him standing in a group talking and laughing with some of the crew. Did any of you notice HOW FREAKING TALL "Ledger" was compared to the other guys in the one video? I mean, he looked like he was 6'5 or something. But then in another video on the same page, he looks about the same height with the rest of the guys. I was just wondering if i was the only one who noticed this. B

TW- I hope talking about the Joker skateboarding is not a spoiler...:whatever:

Australian Actor in the past sometimes got listed as 6ft 2 and at least 3 newspapers in 2001 were guilty of giving him 6ft 4. Famous for The Patriot and A Knight's Tale he says when talking about the movie Ned Kelly: "Ned was 6ft. I’m 6ft. 1in" - Ledger quoted from celebheights.com

So I guess 6'1 is taller than the average male. It would be cool to see the Joker towering over Batman, seeing how Bale is what- 5'10? A tall lanky Joker is going to look pretty creepy on film IMO. With good filming angles- A 6'1 Joker could easily look REALLY TALL.

It's good we're getting a tall, lanky Joker. That's the way he's tended to look in the comics.

Exactly- Nolan has fit the Joker character almost perfectly IMO. Now don't get me wrong- Burton's take on Joker was fine. The nerve damage smile was great to see on film, but Joker being short and somewhat overweight just didn't sit well with me. This new Joker look where he is extremely tall and lanky is going to perfect. Imagine walking down the street one night and this tall guy walking up to you with a pale, dead looking face with black, sunken-in eyes looking right at you. Nolan has this Joker version on-point.

You're a mean one, Mr. Joker.
You really are a heel.
You're as cuddly as a cactus,
You're as charming as an eel.
Mr. J.
You're a bad banana
With a greasy black peel.
You're a monster, Mr. J.
Your heart's an empty hole.

Seriously though, the character notes have been perfect so far. I know it is very little to go on but what we have seen leaves me gitty like a little girl. Physically he’s a match, very Bolland esque'. if you will.

Nicholson didnt look exactly like the comics but his acting prowess carried off his joker just like Keaton wasnt a perfect looking Wayne/batman , he still was great imo. Ledger has never really impressed me as an actor he is capable but i dont see him as joker he will probably be good but i doubt he will knock anyones socks of with his performance.

Nicholson was a great Joker: talking to the dead after he killed them, killing his right hand man on a whim, etc- but when you look at him, he doesnt LOOK like a psychopath- he looks like a clown from the circus. This new Joker look is going to look the part of a homocidal maniac who has nothing to lose. We can debate about Ledger's acting skills until we are blue in the face but when July 18th comes around next year, (man- thats a long time) I seriously doubt that Nolan will allow a half-arsed Joker character portrayal to fly. I agree with you though about Ledger so far in his acting adventures- from what I have seen, he is really going to have to show a dark, serious side that he has yet to show us on the big screen. Unless I am unaware of some of his smaller roles. But the reports from the RFK set is that he is really going all out and he is comes off as a creepy SOB. God- i can't wait for this film.
