The Dark Knight Joker Hype!

Nicholson was a great Joker: talking to the dead after he killed them, killing his right hand man on a whim, etc- but when you look at him, he doesnt LOOK like a psychopath- he looks like a clown from the circus. This new Joker look is going to look the part of a homocidal maniac who has nothing to lose. We can debate about Ledger's acting skills until we are blue in the face but when July 18th comes around next year, (man- thats a long time) I seriously doubt that Nolan will allow a half-arsed Joker character portrayal to fly. I agree with you though about Ledger so far in his acting adventures- from what I have seen, he is really going to have to show a dark, serious side that he has yet to show us on the big screen. Unless I am unaware of some of his smaller roles. But the reports from the RFK set is that he is really going all out and he is comes off as a creepy SOB. God- i can't wait for this film.

From what ive heard(whether true or not) heath is blowing jack's joker out of the water

Well, I think that Nicholson's Joker was a fantastic take on the COMIC BOOK joker. He was colorful, smiling/laughing the entire movie, and one sick SOB!!! I think Ledger's Joker is going to be another fantastic take on the Joker, just more grounded in reality. It will be a character where the audience will say- "man, this guy could really be out there somewhere" - unlike Burton's Joker who was pretty unrealistic. All IMO of course!!! :woot:

yeah jack was good, but, and thats a big but, if the reports are true, heath's interpretation will not dissappoint

a year is along time and ive never seen so much hype for one movie, its gonna be tough

Heck yeah- my wife is already sick of hearing about this movie. But everytime a new photo is released or taken- I get all giddy and I feel like I have to show someone. haha

Back to Joker. I know in the comics he uses chemicals on some of his victims- do you think that Nolan will give him a background in chemistry or will he just be militant- using weapons like RPGs, guns and bombs.

My g/f is the same way

I think nolan is gonna make him highly intelligent, and a nut. He will probably be a chemist or surround himself with them. The best thing ive heard on the hype boards is a super-smart-terrorist, that has a background in everything

Well, a super smart terrorist is quite the foe for any superhero. haha And a background in everything ought to give Batman a good run for his money.

With all the open ends within this film- it will definitely be interesting to see how Joker interacts with not only Batman, but other criminals and gangs who are attempting to take over the vacant Crime Boss position previously held by Falcone. I think it would be an awesome scene in TDK if two gangs were about to have a street fight or some confrontation due to a turf war- and Joker shows up and kills everyone. He kinda plays the "wild card" role of Gotham. :woot:

yeah im thinking that the joker is gonna be gunning for batman and the other bad guys on his turf, its gonna be real interesting to see how this whole thing ties together, hope its 2 and 1/2 hours long, i dont want another FF2

yeah- i heard the reviews from my friends on FF2 and saved my money on that one. I heard there is like 1-2 good scenes and the rest is BLAH.

The surfer was bada** but thats it, its like shoving all of the godfather into a 1 30min sitcom, not a good finished product,

i just hope tdk doesnt run into that problem, ya know, a lot of stuff crammed into not a lot of time

Which is why I'm so excited about "The Dark Knight", and The Joker in particular. I still view Jack Nicholson's Joker as one of the all-time great movie villains, of any genre, not just comic book films. And if Heath Ledger is going to blow HIM out of the water, then we must surely be onto something really special here. I'm just getting such a good feeling about this film.

I really don't think im going to walk out of this movie not liking Heath's performance. That's mainly because i've been waiting for a new take on Mr. J for quite some time. The one thing that has my brain going crazy is the anticipation, I can't wait to see how he's going to play him. Is he going to be real light on the jokes and silliness or fairly heavy but without too much cheese?

Well, it certainly is going to have a TON of characters in it. But I think that Nolan will distribute the characters throughout the film evenly. I can't see Nolan making this film any less than 2 hours and 30 minutes. There is too much plot going on and Nolan LOVES to tie up all loose ends in his flicks.

I am hoping for very little or no cheese. I want something evil like the step-father from Pan's Labyrinth. He was just sick and cruel- that is how i want the Joker portrayed in this film. HOWEVER- it is THE Joker, so I have to believe that there will be some comic relief provided by Mr. J.

Keyser it looks like your save the non-spoiler board plan is working slowly but steadily, good idea:woot:

from what ive seen or heard so far theres nothing that discourages me from this film

as long as its not corny or campy funny, dark humor should be the way it goes, i wanna see the joker be a total bada**, like the B:TAS Joker, just a little more serious tho

I agree- I certainly don't want a cheesy one liner or something really child-ish. Although we did get "nice coat" in the last one.

i didnt mind the nice coat line, i just dont want a schumacher pun-o-rama, as long as they are kept to minimum i dont think it would hurt the film

Totally agree and I don't think we'll have to worry about anything campy. You can already see an example of it with your sig! Definately dark and it's a great, small way to show the sense of humor.

Thats why i plan on seeing this movie mutliple times, should be the best so far

Here are the latest set pics of The Joker, posted by Bat Brain over on the Chicago Set/Pics thread:

Blurry, I know, but...how AWESOME does this look? The Joker is looking creepy as hell here! He really is the stuff of nightmares.

Can you imagine, you're lying in bed at night, and you hear the floor creaking in the hallway outside. Then, the door slowly, slowly opens, and you see THAT grinning face peering in through the crack?

Joker looking good so far, and did you see what hunter did with the spoiler boards

I did, and I think it's the right move. Kudos go to hunter rider for doing a great job.

Those pics are great! I think this although blurry is a better full scaled photo facing his well...face lol. What exactly did Hunter Rider do to the spoiler boards? I don't want to go over there.
