It's certainly the Joker I'd like to see. In B89 (comparison, not bashing), Joker is Jack Napier, a career criminal with a penchant for cruelty and wearing purple. The accident makes him crazy, but he's already an SOB. Now, nothing wrong with this, per se, but it does take away from his mystique, IMO. Now he's not 'The Joker: Identity Unknown', he's Jack Napier after a chemical bath and bad plastic surgery.I think that what itsthebatman is trying to say that for HIS Joker, Nolan would be best to draw inspiration from the comics.
Thank you! I'm having a good day alright.Wow. Excellent post. Especially agree with the Hannibal part.

And that's not what I want to see in TDK.

LOVE THAT JOKER!!!!!
It was on telly last week, I had it on in the background while on this very forum. I enjoyed it a lot, hadn't seen it in ages. But we can say with confidence, even at this stage, that Heath's Joker is going to be VERY different.More i see of that joker, less i like that joker

So you basically just want more of the same?I want a new take, one that is closer to the comics. The whole Jack Napier thing was made up for Batman '89, thus, I don't want it in TDK. I prefer my Joker like in the comics were 99% no one knows his name and real crazy and sadistic. Not silly crazy like Nicholsons performance.

Cool. I totally agree - let's see a different Joker. This one's a terrorist where Jack's was a gang leader (someone already said this, can't remember who) . Two totally different approaches, and there's room to like both. All we need is for Heath to give a performance that will match what the script and scenario seems to give him.I get it now.![]()
I think most people recognise that there isn't a definitive version of anything, but more so that there are certain core concepts and aspects to each character, and their costume. Batman - dead parents - grim - tremendous athlete and detective - dark costume with cape, cowl and Bat-symbol. Joker - insane - genius - bleached skin - green hair - big smile. Just as obvious examples. I'm like you - change is good, I don't expect, or want, rigid, unflexible translation from the comics, I'm interested in different views and ideas, as long as the irreducible core is still there. That's me, in a nutshell. The sensitivity and bashing of a character by Batman fans because of a single change in appearance etc. is pretty laughable. I'm a big Batman fan myself, but I do not share the feeling that most Bat fans (purists) have. I like to see changes, that keeps our hero and his universe fresh. In a way, some people want to see the same thing over and over again in comic, movie and cartoon. Ofcourse, I like small and big references too. But let's not overdo it. Batman and the Joker have been in the hands of so many creative people throughout the years that there really isn't a completely ''definitive version'' there are however most influential.

That takes me back to laughing obnoxiously out loud in the theater pissing off the sith lord and jedi knight I was sitting next to.I think you're forgetting the most glaring example of this "loss of mystique" in villains...
