The Dark Knight Joker Hype!

Like, see him in all his glory. The first clear shot of him in the movie.

OH I think an official one should be released close to when it opens. If at all but thats just me

I don't think it'll be quite that late. They've already released a pic of him, he's no secret. I'd say if we're lucky, we'll get a good look at him with the upcoming teaser trailer.

well thats what I want I know its not going to happen.

While most villains would benefit from an origin / back story, for instance Two-Face, I feel that the Joker would not. Two-Face is equivalent to the Wolfman, a character who is not in control of his actions and therefore is a tragic figure. As mentioned in an earlier post, Joker was around for 10 years before the "Red Hood" story gave spotlight to his "origin"; himself admitting that he was a "lab worker" who wanted to steal money. Personally I feel that the story was a "hook"; something to sell comics. IMO, once you expose a character's origin you create understanding and therefore sympathy. One of the reasons the Joker has endured is because there IS no sympathy for such a man. Assuming the Joker existed in real life such a man would scare the crap out of people and frankly thats the way I want him. Also having his origin remain a secret magnifies his mystery and therefore makes for a more interesting character and works hand in purple glove to give credence to his apparent madness. I say have the Joker remain a mystery for at least 2 or 3 movies before his origin is provided.

^^I think Burton did a heckuva job selling Joker as a lunatic even when revealing his past. He showed that Jack Napier was a psycho, nut job even before he became Joker. Through Bruce's flashbacks, we learn that Jack was a cruel, heartless killer who took pleasure in killing. He was always a "bad egg" and evil, and therefore although his origin was revealed- sympathy was never given to him by the audience. I believe that Nolan could reveal part of the Joker's past without making him a sympathetic villan. Maybe Nolan can use flashbacks to show that Joker kills his parents- or kills animals as a young child therefore selling the idea that there was always a dark shadow hanging over this person and there is no understanding why he is the way he is.

the only thing worse than a geek fight, is a full movie attire star wars geek fight

this is getting way off joker topic, but i have to add my movie costume story here- Went to go to see LOTR: The Two Towers on opening night and there were some guys there in Hobbit attire. Well - one of them was wearing a red cape and had on glasses. I couldn't resist when i saw this kid and in a packed movie theater, I yelled out "Who let Harry Potter in here?!?!?!"

It was quite humorous...

Now back to JOKER....

I agree. I'd rather not see anything of The Joker's backstory. And if we do, it should be a deliberately vague flashback, followed by a nod to the classic "I prefer my past to be multiple choice" line from "The Killing Joke".

(Also: Good call on this thread, Keyser. Now go read The Dark Knight Returns already, there's a lot of great Joker stuff in there).

In other news. I FINALLY bought "The Dark Knight Returns" today. Now I can see what I've been missing out on all this time. :oldrazz:

Once I read it, I'll post my thoughts.

I finally read it two weeks ago as I've just gotten back into reading comics after a long abscence. I liked it alot and hope you did as well! Also just finished TLH and Dark Victory, those were great and I could see some of that being in the movie.

I went out and bought TLH about 3 months ago, if the movie is anything like that........................happiness abroad

Joker stealing the show?

IESB.NET talked to Aaron Eckhart and here's a bit of what he had to say:

"[Heath Ledger is] fantastic. Heath is fantastic, Christian is amazing -- I worked with him as Batman in the Bat suit with ears and (laughs) it's really transforming to see Christian as Bruce Wayne then to see him as Batman....and Chris Nolan is a fantastic director…Wait till you see Heath. He is amazing as The Joker. He is going to steal the whole movie."

Found this on BOF

PS: not sure if this is the right place for this? if not can someone re-direct me please and thanks:)

I think its ok here, goes along with what everybody elses has been saying all along........they're all great yadda yadda yadda

I just wonder if Heath will outstage Bale the same way people say Jack outstaged Keaton...

Thats what it looks like so far, although i know its blasphemy but Bale has done the best with the Batman role, so there just might be more attention paid to Joker making it look that way. Burton always did more with the villains than batman anyway.

Ya that's true, The Joker should be outstanding, but Batman and Joker should be equal...one should not be over the other...

My one bit of advice: Take your time. Read a book each day, or each week if you can hold out.

Looking forward to hearing your review soon, though.

(Oh, and thanks again for the thread. I haven't been to the spoilers boards in a couple of days).

@Keyser Soze: Have you read Dark Victory? Your idea of a "Godfather" style montage showing the Freaks taking out organized crime is there, and has a very diverse roster.

Yep, that's where I got the idea. :woot:

No need to take a negative outlook on it. Saying The Joker "steals the show" doesn't mean that Bale is going to have his role reduced, or that the character of Batman will be hurt. Just take it at face-value: Heath Ledger is going to frickin' ROCK as The Joker, which is what we all want to hear.
