Hey all Batman fans! =) I was here wondering if someone here could please tell me about the two first Apperances of Joker in Batman comic #1 and 2.

Reason for this is since Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight will have a Joker like he was in those two so i was really wondering was there something special that happened.

I have read "The man who laughs" and there Joker makes threats to Gothan citizens and announces kills thru televition to kill A-listers so i guess thats something we might see in Dark Knight, but did the #1 include anything about the poisoned water Joker planned for in Man who laughs?

But yeah, if anyone here could tell me something about the Joker's first two appearances, i would really appriate (sp) that. (=

In Batman #1, he's basically already established as The Joker. We get no backstory at all to him. He makes announcements on the radio about people he's going to kill, like Henry Claridge, and steal the Claridge diamond. He kills his victims with a toxin that leaves them with a smile. He also leaves Joker cards at the scene of his crimes.

In one of his killings, he actually disguises himself as a Cop to get close enough to kill his victim. Batman tries to stop him, but actually gets his ass kicked by Joker on their first meeting.

Joker captures Robin in the story at one point, and Batman saves him, of course. Batman and Joker have a chase, a bit of a scuffle, and Joker inevitably gets captured and thrown in prison, where he vows he'll have the last laugh yet.

I don't know about Batman #2. It's been years since I read it.

Ah allright, thanks!

But still would be lovely to hear about the second appearances, since i heard he was originally planned to be killed off but Bob Kane (or someone) decided at the last moment to let him survive. D:

The Joker did die at one point. I believe he stabbed himself. His henchman later stole his corpse and reanimated him with some kind of chemical solution.

He died on the electric chair and came back to life, washed away his crimes.

Both his first, and second appareances were in Batman #1. It went Joker story, Catwoman story, 2nd Joker story in that issue. He wasnt in Batman #2.

And they say that modern age comics are dark and creepy. :whatever:

Yep, that's what happened. He was declared dead, and had legally paid for his crimes. So, when he came back to life, Batman couldn't touch him legally.

It was a wonderful over the top story. I love the scene where he's confessing all his crimes to the Cops, and they have volumes and volumes of files dedicated to his crimes.

That sounds awesome. Does anybody have scans?

So on the 2# comic he died like that but got survived? ugh doesn't sound like something like that will happen in The Dark Knight. =D I love the idea of Joker confessing all his crimes, its so hilariously evil. (=

But i just heard something about him falling off a roof top and Batman saved his ass and said something about "your too valuable to lose" or something. Anyone got any idea what the heck am i blabbering about?

That confessing his crimes thing didn't happen in his second story. That was in a later story that someone mentioned above. In his second story, Joker was assumed dead at the end of the story. One of those disappeared and assumed dead scenarios. But of course he survived.

Yeah, that happened at the end of his first story. It's how Batman captured him.

are these 2 stories in the greatest joker stories ever told?

Thanks alot Joker for answering these questions, hugely appriated (sp). =)

^^^ Awesome!

"Speak up, you old fossil. You can't frighten the Joker" :D

That's really cool.

I love Robin diving through the plate glass window, too. "Oops! That's the Joker all right!"--too funny.

Haha thats just crazy! :P

I think it was the DC comics editor at the time who saw the potential in the Joker character that he had Bill Finger rewrite so that Joker lived.

I's there collection anywhere that has best Batman stories of fourties?

Batman in the 40's and Batman Chronicles Vol. 1 are both good places to start.

he actually survived getting stabbed. it was batman #1 "the joker returns" batman and robin are standing over his body and robin says something to the effect of "still grinning in death" but a few frames later the doc says "this man is still alive and hes going to live!" coincidentally his chest is white but no mention of this is ever made by the characters. the reason i mention that is because some have wrongfully claimed that his skin was mentioned as permawhite at some point in his first appearance which is not true. in fact there is no mention of the state of his skin at all in his first two stories

he did survive an electric chair execution by way of chemical solution however.
