Josh Holloway to star in X-Men?

‘Lost’ star, Josh Holloway, who plays the conman Sawyer in the cult plane crash TV series, has been approached by studio bosses to play Gambit - a mutant who can charge objects with kinetic energy and make them explode. He told TV Hits magazine: “We had a meeting and they wanted me to play Gambit, the card dealer character, they thought I’d be perfect for the part. We’ll see.”
Holloway’s announcement has confirmed rumours 20th Century Fox are to make another film after the success of the previous three instalments.
The 37-year-old actor is keen to play a superhero because he wants to wear a pair of tights.
Holloway said: “I would love to play a superhero. I’d love to wear a cape and tights!”
The hunky star isn’t worried about performing his own stunts if he lands the role, because he is a real-life action man.
He explained: “I hike and kayak and I have a boat, because I enjoy fishing. I grew up in the mountains where it’s all lakes and streams, so a lot of my life has been an adventure getting to know the ocean.”

Pretty cool to think that there might be a 4th! :D

Yes, and I heard they approached Jon Favreau to play the Beast. And Edward Norton for Cyclops. And Dougray Scott will be Wolverine.

They should've gone with an unknown. With Holloway playing the role, people are just going to see Sawyer on the screen, only alongside the X-men instead of on an island.

Oh well, it's not like the studios (or Marvel) cares about doing the character justice anyway.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Fox better tread very carefully into 4th movie territory after the 3rd one wrapped everything up the way it did.

past tense- he was in talks for x3 i believe no confirmation. He's probably working on the assumption if they ever did another one- he'll see

Why the sarcasm? Nobody said he will definitely play Gambit - just that he's been approached, so it would be a possibility.

Personally, I don't think he should play the role. He's about 12 years older than Anna Paquin, so a relationship between the two might be hard to sell. He's got a nice look for the part, but I just think they should stick to somebody in his mid-late 20's. MAYBE early 30's, but that's cutting it close.

I also agree that they should cast an unknown for a role - that, or somebody who is famous for many different things, so that people don't look at him and see this certain character. For example, Halle Berry was made famous by her role as a Bond Girl, right? (Sorry if I'm wrong) Well, I don't think many people look at her and think "Bond!" now. They look at her and think "Halle!" Obviously, it'll be hard to find somebody like that in their mid-20's, so it's probably best to pick an unknown.

wasnt this a rumour from x3? if its for x4,im pissed

Don't know what to think about the news real date, in some way, I like the idea that Fox is doing a X4, but really hate they want Josh for Gambit. He isn't Gambit, for me, specially in term of look. So don't know... I hope he finally don't end with the role.

Yes, he was approached for X-Men 3. Lauren Shuler-Donner confirmed that herself.
But it's old news, like Favreau as the Beast in the first X-Men.

I hope this is the old news and he wasn't approached again. After all, casting usually starts AFTER the movie is announced. Holloway as Gambit = Big No.

I hate that line of thought. Casting Gambit based on compatibility with Rogue is exactly what's been wrong with the two characters for the last couple years. They're individual characters and should be autonomous. I hope Rogue stays with Iceman and we can just do without the inevitable love-triangle when Gambit enters the films.

actually he looks alot like gambit but josh still sucks for the role

:o

Ugghhh. This better be old news, otherwise I've got a bone to pick
with the casting director.:cmad:

Josh is too old, and the two characters (Sawyer and Gambit), really
aren't THAT similar. At least not very much to me.

Whatever happens, if there is a 4th, hopefully it will not disappoint
like the third. And have a more seasoned, experienced director for gosh sakes!!

I know that Gambit was potentially going to play a small role in X3. But why approach a big name like Josh Holloway to make a cameo appearance?...unless it was a set-up scene for an X4.

I always found that odd...

Never heard of the guy, but after doing a quick google image search, he definitely has the look. Based on looks alone, i think that's a solid choice.

Um..Halle Berry was a major star waaay before she did James Bond. She had been in the business for over a decade. She was well known to the American audience even though most of her work had been in African American centered films which unless its 'Boyz N Da Hood' or some other ultra violent gang influenced depiction of the black community...whites stay away from.

i think Josh would be perfect! i would love to see him shuffling the ol' deck of cards!

Well, one thing I do like about Holloway playing Gambit is the age; having an older Gambit with a weathered look is closer to the essence of the character IMO. Part of the character is that he's lead a bad life and made a lot of mistakes as he's come along. You can't really have that sense of sins in the past if he's only 17!

Also, since Paquin will still be Rogue due to her contract, there's no way they'd dare hook up the characters! So that means theres no chance Rogue will drag him down with all that stupid angst!

*cries miserably in a corner*

Blah.

I didn't want an older Gambit.

Didn't want a 17-year-old one, but I certainly didn't want late-thirty-or-fourty-something Josh.

Don't get me wrong though, I think he's a good actor and he's hot,
but I really don't see him playing Gambit. I'm just gonna be thinking
"Oh, it's Sawyer" when I see him on screen at first.

Maybe if this thing gets made and the movie progresses (If this
thing is even true. I mean, I think it's awfully early for
casting to be leaked out.), he'll be believeable and I can accept it, but for now, I'm not happy.
It's just so type-casting! Why couldn't they have just gone with an
unknown ?

Totally agreed with you. But about being hot.... not at all, he disgust me a little... I preffer Santoro. I think an unknow would be the best. And in some way, I think this will be what they end doing.

i think he would be a great choice!!!!! and he's not too old
