Obviously from the title I just bought FFXII. Iwas wondering if people could share their opinions on the game. No spoilers or anything, I've only gotten far enough to have Penelo fight with me. Does anyone know how to use the gambit system, cuz I can't figure it out. Maybe it's cuz I don't really have any abilities yet. I bought the license for the spell cure, but I can't select it in the white magicks menu. Do I have to buy spells in the city?

The Gambit system can be confusing. Essentially you need the most important Gambits at the top of the list. For example for HP<30% you could attach cure and put it at the top of the list, and below that 'Any Foe' with 'Attack'.

This way, players under the Gambit will attack any enemy you select unless your, or their, health falls below 30%, in which case they will use the Cure spell to heal. It's really just a case of practice, and as you get more Gambits and abilities you'll get used to it.

For magic and techniques you have to unlock them on the Licence Board and buy them from the shops before you can use them. You need to find a Magic shop that sells that magic Cure. There should be one in Rabanastre where you start out, though I can't remember if it's available straight away or not.

Thanks. I just bought some spells, and Vaan nd Penelo both know cure. But howw do I set gambits? The game manual said I could change it in the party menu, but I couldn't find it.

I dont beleive you can do it till Fran and Balthier enter your party if Im correct. You should have probably waited to buy cure bc once Fran comes into your party, you automatically get it from her. Its no biggie though

Gotcha. God, I keep getting this feeling that this game is AWESOME! I'm as far as the cutscene where Fran's motorcycle malfunctions. Man, this game is the ****. And it's not T, like all the other games I've played recently(MGS3, GOWII, RE4,Vice City). It doesn't need any violence or gore to make an impact, not to diss GOW and RE4, which are my two favorite games. And I'm only FOUR HOURS IN!!! Does it stay at this level? And why don't any of the vids on the internet show magic being used like thunder or fire? I use that alot for range attacks, yet if you only watched videos online you'd think there was no magic besides the summons.

I dont know about the magic. Maybe people didnt find it too impressive? I didnt find offensive magic that useful in this game, except against several Hunts. I mainly stuck to weapon combat

Yes the game is great throughout. Its VERY long though if you plan on trying all teh sidequests. I played it for 5 months straight and by that point I was ready to be done with FF so I stopped doing the sidequests and finished up the storyline, bc I felt I was dragging on in the game and needed to go do other stuff

Magic has it uses, but for the most part you'll find yourself using weapon attacks. The problem with magic is that it uses mana, which ideally you'll want to save for white magic spells to get you out of tricky spots. You'll be wanting to keep as much mana as possible for quickenings as well, which trust me, you'll be needing later in the game.

Magic does serve some uses though. I often use it against flying creatures if I don't have ranged attackers on my team. It's also useful if a character has a elemental weapon that an enemy can absorb, so every time you attack they actually get healed. Switch to magic then too. Plus there are some much more powerful magic attacks toward the end.

Does the game stay at this level? Honestly? It can get a little repetitive after 30 hours or so. There's a lot of running round forever at certain points that can drag.

Lame. Well thanks for responding. This is my first FF, my uncle gave me VII, but it froze right at the beginning, so I never gave it another thought. The only RPG I've ever played before this was Animorphs on the PC. I thought it was a fun game, but I was an Animorphs ****e, so it could've sucked hardcore.

FF12 is more of a evolution of FF11 Online, instead of multiplayer, you have Gambits that act as multiplayers,So if you get poisoned and your "medic/white mage" has Alley>Status Effect:Poison>Ensuna Spell That means that for anyone poisoned, that white mage will automatically cast that spell/potion to cure that status effect. Simple once you get the hang of it.

Try playing FF 11...forced parties,no soloing, monsters chase you with aggro till you change areas and also link with each other,a 20 minute wuest takes 3 hours cause people go afk and can't stay together, impossible rare items require 85 people to help you get it,You have to fill out online forum "applications" in order to get into a good guild, chinese gil farmers everywhere making it hard to make gil, notorious monsters take 3-72 hours to spawn with 8 other guilds waiting for the same monster you are. Make sure you make friends with everyone and be the best you can be if you ever want to "finish the game"

im not sure how i feel about the game yet. im 20hrs in and i only have 1 esper and like 4 mist attacks. Balthier is the lowest level character i have.i think lv 14, as i recall. i last played it like 2 months ago, i stopped cuz i got stuck. the graphic are great, i was blown away by the opening sequence and im already hyped for FFXIII.

The espers suck. Dont even bother worrying about them bc they are useless and more trouble then anything. Balthier isnt so great in the beginning but he becomes a beast towards the end when he's leveled up and has the Fohamut. Id keep all characters at relatively the same level.

Why and how are you stuck? Is it bc you dont know where to go or did it get too hard for you?

oh yeah i forgot that. the epsers are pretty much useless. they get killed to easily

The problem with espers as that they reduce the number of people in your party. Why only have two when you could have three? They aren't powerful enough to justify losing party members with a wide range of abilities.

What killed Espers for me is that you cant control them. They randomly do their own thing and end up getting themselves or my character killed. If you could control them like other party members, then they would have been much more useful.

I'm kinda eh on this game. I see where it's an amazingly deep game, but I just couldn't get with the story. I got to the end of the game, right before the last place you go to kill the last boss, and just said **** it cause I was so bored with the story to go through one of the Square Enix End Game Bosses things, where they're always like an hour long battle if yoiu don't know exactly what to do, only to get to the very end of it and end up dying somehow and starting all over.

Yeah, not so much.

I think it's awesome so far, but I'm only twelve hours in, so it might get boring but I doubt it. Not sure what to do, cuz I just saved the princess and beat my first judge, which was pretty cool. He fought with a gold sword and a spiked fan. I travelled back to Rabanastre, but I don't know how to progress the story. I want to get a couple bounties and spells while I'm hear though.I never thought of Fran as Chewbaca, but I guess that's who they based her off of, him and a playboy bunny. I put a gambit on Balthier so he uses Blizzard unless someone has less than 60% health. Some imperials(stormtroopers) were using magic on me, and I thought to myself: "they look cool doing it, so I might as well". I'll probably change that later cuz of quikenings and stuff. I don't think I've got an esper yet. And that Fireman horse boss was the most annoying one, all the others I had to revive like two people at the most.

Well, gameplay wise, its one of the best. The new system rocks and the hunt minigame is the best minigame yet IMO.

However, the story is one of the worst I've ever played. The jargon used in the cut scenes along with the overly fantasy ramblings and overly deep but entirely useless backstory bogs this game down a lot. The majority of charcters are weak as well.

My advice is keep playing. Don't stop because if you do, you might not have the compunction to carry on. I certainly don't and can't be arsed to carry on and I'm right at the end with all of the sidequests to finish.

The worst part about the game though, is if you drop it for about a week, then pick it up later, you'll be like "ok, what the **** am I suppoed to do, where am I supposed to go?"

Only to wander around for HOURS because the games areas are ridiculsouly big, and end up in the wrong spot. Then you save the game and turn it off for a week, and come back and go "wtf?"

I felt thats the way its been in the other FF games I played. Its best to just play them front start to end without stopping for any long length of time

I like the story so far, but they take WAY too much from Star Wars in terms of characters and story. I like Basch though, he's just ****ing badass.

yeah he's good but Balthier owns. Best FF character ever

I don't know, Locke and Sabin were both pretty badass.
