Ok, after having seen X3 last nite and thinking how Gambit could have possibly fit in, I think I have a good idea. If you haven't seen the movie yet or read anything in these forums then this will contain spoilers. Moving on:
Rogue in the Danger Room was protected by Colossus because her power doesn't really give her a good defense in the field of battle. The whole thing with Bobby should be over, he's with Kitty now. Rogue is frustrated about not being able to help the X-Men in addition to the alienation her powers give her. She wants the cure because she feels she's burdening the team, not because she can't hold hands with her boyfriend. When she gets off the bus to get in line for the cure she meets Remy on the street. He introduces himself and they get to talking. Rogue explains her frustrations and Remy offers her another way. He takes her to another mutant who has the ability to heighten mutant abilities, like Sage. Rogue is not cured but is given invulnerability and the power of flight. She takes Gambit to Alcatraz during the final battle where they appear, much like Angel, in the thick of it. Therefore we, the audience, get to see not only the Rogue from the comic books but Gambit fighting with charged cards and a staff. At the end Rogue shows Gambit his new room where we assume he will be an X-Man and also show Gambit and Rogue's growing relationship. I know it's not much but I think that this would have satisfied most Rogue fans and most Gambit fans. What do you all think?
