Maybe im taking this too literal but isn't it strange how Iron Man pretty much predicted ON POINT what was going to happen in the civil war? He even mentions Spidey being unmasked, he said it was going to happen and it did. Is it coincidence? Does Stark have something to do with all this? What do y'all think?

I think Stark is behind it. I just read Illuminati a week ago and noticed that as well.
He predicts it all. Stamford, the new law, Spidey unmasking, Marvel being split into 2 groups.
Wierd if you ask me.

That would be the sensible answer, here's another view.

Tony Stark is a 'futurist,' (whatever the hell that is. Actually, I think he explains it in The Illuminati, but I still find it an odd thing.) So using the 'futurist,' tag, Bendis used the ending of Illuminati to entice people and get fans psyched for 'Civil War.'

I much prefer the conspiracy angle you guys have, but I don't believe it's true, it was used as a way to get people to start talking about the impending war.

REALLY enjoyed Illuminati though, even with the Hulk retcon, (come one everyone, this is one of the rare times where I'll admit Bendis is right, it makes PERFECT sense!)

It would be totally Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil if he orchastated the whole thing to get the government to approve the bill. Sacrifice a few to save the whole.

P.S. Funny sig, wolvie2020

Yeah, the issue where She-Hulk went to that town and claimed that Hulk had never killed anybody, because if he did, Banner would have killed himself? Wow, that didn't make any goddamn sense. I'm not as huge a Dan Slott fan as others, though I do like him, but that was just stupid. All those times the Hulk went rampaging through the towns, and he NEVER KILLED ANYBODY????? Please. Much better the way it was treated in Ultimates, when Hulk had a body count over 300 in Manhattan alone.

I thought the futurist tag was a cheap way of giving us plot hints about Civil War. I thought it was pretentious and stupid at the time, but if it turns out that he is the secret puppetmaster, making this all happen, that'd be nuts.

Not giving the Hulk a bodycount makes as much sense as not giving Iron Man a bodycount. By that logic, Iron Man killed hundreds everytime he fought one of his bad guys in the streets of NY or Thor fought against the Absorbing Man etc. Suspension of disbelief, folks.

Either way, I think it was just to entice, and not to hint toward a Iron Man-conspiracy.

strange question...why is this in the spider-man forums, he's not in this issue so...

It's the fact that Iron Man pretty much spells out what is going to happen in Civil War, and actually goes as far as saying Spider-Man's name, and what is going to happen to him, that's why.

Also, he was the one who conviced Spidey to unmask, after he made this little speech, kinda makes you think don't it?

As awesome as that would be, I would have to wonder if they would actually go that way with the character, and if they did, would they allow the other characters of the MU to be privvy to that information?

I mean, Iron Man is the front-man of Bendis' MIGHTY AVENGERS book. Would ANYONE follow him if they knew he orchestrated a war?

Someone somewhere else made this point, but I'll repeat it here: Who says Tony Stark is in the armor? Other people have worn it before. For all we know, Aunt May's piloting it...

That's true. I'd forgotten that Bendis himself implied that same thing in an article in this month's WIZARD.

Um it's definitly Tony inside the armor, we've seen him multiple times take his helmet off. Civil War#3 for example, right before everybody started battling each other, he opened his helmet before Captain America in an attempt to reason with him. Also read Civil War frontline where he reveals his identity in front of everybody at a press conference. Yea its definitly Tony behind that armor.

We're talking about the Iron Man in the new Avengers book. Of course the Iron Man in Civil War is Stark. :yay:

tony (and Jim) has in the past used makeup to hide his face when he has to take off the hemut. so there is a posabiltiy that it isn't tony in the armor.

We're saying that there's a possibility that by the end of Civil War #7, the man in the armor may not be Tony Stark, as that's what's been implied by some.

:woot:
