It's a relatively little-known fact that the whole concept of the symbiote costume enhancing Spider-Man's strength and speed while altering his personality is ENTIRELY spun from the 90's cartoon. In the original comic continuity, the only things he gained from it were organic webbing and a quick change. While the downside was that it turned out to be a parasite, feeding off his body's energy and causing him to sleep more than would normally be required.
I'm wondering if this concept would have gone over better with fans in the movie.

Yeah I always tell the idiots who say that the Symbiote made Spider-Man evil in the original comic books that they're wrong.

I personally like the evil/cocky twist that was used in the 90's cartoon and movie. It adds alot more drama and makes him getting rid of it more intense.

If they just had it where the Symbiote did nothing to him the fans would complain about that too.

"Fans" will always find something to complain about.

You're probably right.

The difference between the cartoon and the movie was the cartoon handled it differently in that Peter didn't come across as funny and goofy when he was bad. He was slick, cold, and suave under the symbiote's influence in the cartoon.

In the movie, he pulls his fringe down, dances down the street, and comes across as an embarrassing idiot. Neither the 90's cartoon, or the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon, or even the comics did it like that. I think that's the crux of the complaints for most people.

The evil things he did was great, like bombing Harry's face, trying to kill Sandman, and hitting MJ.

yes, hitting women is a great thing...

I think Joker meant as far as showing how much the suit had corrupted him.
Again, I could excuse him becoming a goofball in the symbiote because he was a goofball already, & the suit just brought that out more.

Oh, I know, I was joking :hehe:

and agreed.

I don't think Sam even saw the cartoon series from the 90's, my theory is that Raimi based the ''turning to evil'' in Superman III, after he get's the tar-kryptonite. He had the ''loses powers to be with the girl he loves'' deal in SM2 -which happens in Supes 2- so he had to do it here. I liked Raimi's movies, but the reboot at least will prevent us from watching ''Spiderman IV, the quest for peace'' :cwink:

Ugh. I don't think that's where he got the idea from at all.

I think it was more or less all his repressed feelings all bubling to the surface at once......Peter has always been portrayed in the in the movie,s(IN MY OPINION ANYWAY) as being very weak,he never says anything back to MJ and she does kind of walk all over him! Therefore his Symbiote persona wouldnt be a mass murdering nut job (THATS EDDIE,S INNER DEMON) It was all about kicking back and letting his hair down.......Peter has spent so long trying to appease others that he decided just to be really, really silly!

It did also make him more vindictive and nasty

I wouldn't go so far as to call him weak, but I do get what you're saying.
