My friend and I are arguing about whether or not Kevin Spacey's character (Prot) turns out to be an alien in the end. In the movie, mind you, not the book (in which he most definitely is an alien) .

My friend insists he turns out to just be a crazy guy who went through trauma and convinced himself he was an alien.

I am certain he was an actual alien inhabiting the body of Kevin Spacey, leaving the body comatose when he departs Earth. Who's right? I know I can count on you, Hypesters...

He was just a crazy guy.

Though he did eventually hook up with Jodie Foster's character from "Contact". They had a lot to talk about, the two of them. Though admittedly, their conversations were rather one sided.

You're sure? Because in the book he's an alien and I thought there was some pretty strong implications he was in the movie, too...

if he wasnt an alien where the hell did that lady go?

I don't know what you mean...was he definitely an alien, definitely a human, or did the movie just leave it open for you to figure out? Things are about to get violent...

I need a total answer here. Human or alien?

This is the friend again.

He was human in the movie. IF not, why not give all the background as to why he had a brake down, why his father was an astronomer (how he knew about that so distant part of space) and why he killed who he did if it wasn't to say that he had a brake, and so created an alter ego.

NO...human all the way.

You're both right. The movie is intentionally ambiguous. It is all about each person's interpretation. He could be either.

if its based on the book then i would go with the direction of the book because that is the way it should be.

ITs definitely up to the viewer to decide. IMO he was an alien.

IMO he was an alien.. because otherwise, where did that lady vaniash to. But he could be either human or alien, depends upon each viewer.

I thought I read an interview where the author said he was an alien. It was awhile ago, mind you, so I may be mistaken.

It's left purposely ambiguous. Which is good. The book sucks because it confirms he's an alien, and then tried to write off two more sequels questioning whether or not he is or isn't.

definitely an alien, just left his body

I think....NO, I know, they left it up for the audience to decide. It was too 50/50. They left it open ended so each individual can choose either opinion.

Personally I like to think he was an alien.

new arguement- is kevin spacey gay?

Alien, they confirmed in in the first bit of the movie when they ran some tests on him. It has been a while since I saw the movie, but they mentioned something to do with his eyesight was beyond human limits and they couldn't explain it. Not to mention all the crazy stuff he did.
He was clearly an alien in the movie, they left no room for debate if you were paying attention. Heck even the writer who wrote the books says he's an alien.

Alien. Purposely ambiguous sure, but beyond human vision, info on star systems the smartest astronomers couldn't have figured out, disappearing chick...c'mon.
