Alright...so I have never read this particular graphic novel but have heard TONS about it either through Wizard over the years, other people or the net. I found out Mr. Synder was helming this movie for the big screen and got excited because I wanted to see what he would do with a Superhero Universe...and from what I gather, the costumes, the trailer, everything looks unreal...so awesome!

But BUUUUT here is the thing LoL...I find myself tricked a lot of the times when it comes to how movies are marketed...obviously that's what studios WANT to do...advertise the movie to be one way but it turns out to not be the way it was advertised....taking all the 'cool' parts as an example, stickin' them in a trailer and then when you see the movie you are blown away with how ALL of the 'cool' parts where in the trailer.

From what I gather "The Watchmen" is something deep....really intelligent and well thought out and is NOT something of a 'rock 'em sock 'em in your face, balls to the wall action type of situation here. People are complaining there is a videogame of this movie comin' out in another thread for petes sake!

What I am trying to figure out is, I've seen all the action figures, the trailer and all of this stuff and it's making me think that this movie is going to be one hell of a ride...but if I sit in the theater am I going to be disappointed that I'm not going to want to go home and act out the battles I saw in the movie with my action figures? Is it going to be a deep character study chalk full of oh christ, I dunno...'political stuff' and lots of dialogue and things of that nature? I'm not saying there is anything WRONG with a movie like that, I dont' always have to have a movie with tons of fights and action and explosions....but are they marketing the movie appropriately so far? That scene with Nite Owl dispensing those criminals in the jail looked awesome or that Comedian fella...he's got twin pistols...does he use them? Does he play a big part in the movie?

I do not want to read the book before I see the movie, I know that's ass backwards for some but it's something I just dont wanna do, just a decision I made.

I know how message boards can be so please if anyone isn't a fan of this thread that's fine, just don't come in here and come off like a prick....however if someone can just kind of address what I'm asking and just let me know what to expect so that I'm not thinking one thing from now until next March and I'm disappointed....again Im not saying the movie couldn't be amazing, but I just dont want to be misled is all.

Thanks! :)

It is really intelligent, and there is some balls to the wall action.I think you will enjoy every second of it. I have read the Graphic Novel over 10 times, and I can tell you I would have never thought someone could do as good of job as Snyder is doing. It is unreal what he is doing.

March 2009 will be an amazing time for Cinema, and Watchmen fans alike.

Thank you so much Wade Wilson, I am SO much more stoked than ever after reading what you just wrote.....PROVIDED you're not blowin' smoke up my rear of course ;)

Like I said, there doesn't have to be action every single frame of film, BUT let's put it this way, I'm a fun lovin' kinda guy....after seeing Iron Man all I wanted to do was go home and have Iron Monger and Iron Man beat the piss out of each other LoL....it's just having fun that's all...I love toys, and I love movies...I especially love comic book movies...THAT have toys based off of them :)

How much action do you think is in it? A good amount? Can you compare it to anything? That main villain what's his name Ozy? Does he fight anyone at the end or...?

Hmmm the more I think about it the more it's harder NOT to just read this darn book LoL.

There's a decent amount of action, but if you're bored by "political stuff" and "dialogue", then I dont think this movie's for you.

It's really hard to tell though, how much action the movie will have. The book had several action sequences, but there were all very short. So it's just a question of whether those specific scenes will be lengthened in the movie or not. Like that prison fight you mentioned, in the book it was a couple panels, but in the movie it could be a few minutes.

But again, if all you're expecting to get out of this movie is the desire to reenact fights with action figures, look elsewhere.

I didn't realize what a childish oaf I sounded like LoL :oldrazz: Yesss as a matter of fact that's just what I'd want to do to be honest ....not gonna lie...kinnnda embarassed :) Ah well, the movie figures look awesome and I love the character designs...doesn't mean I can't make up my own adventures :)

I actually looked up some Watchmen info on Wikipedia...sounds pretty cool. I'm still really excited to see this in the theater...such a cool trailer.

There is action, and the Comedian will use more than his pistols, but if the movie does it's job, it will make you realize that he really shouldn't have.

I am a Batman fan, but I got interested in Watchman based on the trailer before TDK.

My question is: who is the character with the mustache and the cigar in the trailer? And who is playing him?

Thanks.....

He is The Comedian, and he is played by Jeffrey dean morgan

Zach has mentioned previously that most of the action scene's from the book have been extended, I guess to please the studio.

But the book works on so many level's with many sub plots and quite a few political issues throughout, therefore for this movie to work at all these parts outweigh any action completely.

Because of the complexity of the story alot of this will not translate onto screen and I would have to advise that you read the book, it truly is something else and a great experience. However many times you read it you will notice something new.

A great site you should visit is http://watchmencomicmovie.com/ very very informative and up to date.

I don't think of the novel as an action novel. It's more than that, and if there is action, it's for the character(s) uprising.

Watchmen is definitely the most sophisticated work of it's kind. There's some heady stuff in there, and I hope it all makes into the movie.

Most of the action sequences were shown in the trailer. I assume they will lengthen them for the movie and make them pretty bad ass (they are already bad ass in the novel), but most of the story is pretty deep and might be somewhat slow and heady unless Snyder can find a way to speed those scenes up. It really all depends on how Snyder makes this movie. If he makes it balls-to-the-wall action throughout, he has ruined this movie. But there should be some good balls-to-the-wall action interspersed between.

I'm excited about Watchmen.

I know Nite Owl is in the movie, but does anyone know if the Question will be in it?

Why would the Question be in Watchmen?

Rorschach, one of the main characters in the GN, closely resembles the Question, if that's who you're referring to.

I doubt WB is going to advertise it as just another superhero action flick. I mean wasn't TDK also intelligent and still managed to set up new records in making money?

They will use intelligent strategy for intelligent movie. And you know why? Because here is Snyder, who, as he several times mentioned, wants to take part in all aspects of the film.

One, do yourself a favour and read the book first. Undo that decision. It's absurd :yay:

Two, there'll be plenty of action, don't worry.

So...I broke down LoL! I picked up the graphic novel...and I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

This book kicks ALL SORTS OF ASS!!! It's unreal how brutally entertaining this book is I am so unbelievably stoked to see this film now (more so than I was before reading the book)

All of the characters are so wonderfully written and the artwork is fantastic!

There is a decent amount of action and I'm hoping they expand on the action scenes in the film...but regardless..this movie is going to be the ****! (...that's a good thing!) :)

ha ha. glad to hear it!. and you can read the boards without having it spoiled now too. or did you already know the ending

Wasnt sure where to post this question. But has it been confirmed that Snyder has changed the ending of the comic? I keep seeing 'save the sqid' everywhere! Just as long as its not been officially confirmed then I can keep hoping. Cheers

We're not sure, really. A lot of evidence indicates the squid is in, but every now and then something comes up that casts doubt on that. Right now it's up in the air.

One thing we do know is that the other aspects of the end are the same. Adrien Vedit will live, and Rorschach will die, by Dr. Manhattan's hand.

I thought some insider came out and said the squid was in?

Thanks, just wanted to make sure I hadnt missed the official line on this
