Just saw the Watchmen trailer and I have to say it was ****ING awesome
Imagine if a JLA movie was made in that same Watchmen/300 style
Any notion of camp goes straight out the window (Ozymandias and Nite Owl looked badass) and that line where, Rorschach? goes, "When they ask me for help, I will simply say no" could very well be spoken by a post TDK Batman

Hell the Owl ship could be replaced by the JAVELIN 7!
Finally, place the pulse pounding JLA animated theme in the background and you got me sold

You haven't read Watchmen, have you?

I know I know
It's just that I thought the trailer was good

I know it is about masked vigilantes without superpowers (save Dr. Manhattan) affecting world history merely by their presence. And before I forget isn't Watchmen more about what Superheroes would truly be like if they existed and their own personal issues and demons? A far more grittier and uglier world than what is generally seen in (1940's & 1960's) comics? A tone that is very similar to what, Oh I don't know... Nolan did with THE DARK KNIGHT

But I'm not here to talk about who is watching he watchmen...
I'm talking about cinematography here...

That trailer certain got me thinking Snyder would make a good JL director.

He has proven he can make a good comic adaption with lots of action in 300.

Thank you! Thank you!!
Somebody who understands what I was saying and not making pre-dertermined assumptions!

I agree with you and think this would a better option than using a simpler style which may be perceived by some as silly

As a side note:
Snyder is now planning to make a movie about a children's book called Guardians of Ga'Hoole which is about a family of Owls apparently

One thing I have to say to this: THE MOST BADASS CHILDREN'S MOVIE OF ALL TIME

Next: Micheal Bay's Peter Pan

Snyder is a hanger-on.

He's shown he can adapt movies that have been basically storyboarded for him in graphic novel form. (300 and Watchmen)

He maybe a good action director but he still hasn't shown me any dramatic effort yet. But hopefully i'm wrong.

This is a good thing with a comic adaption. JLA has got plenty of material for him to use for potential storyboards.

All he needs is a good scriptwriter
Then DC fanboys will experience the ultimate geekgasm

But, I agree with you, we need to see if he can do Drama just as well he can do action
Watchmen may do that for him
Let's wait and see

No. This is what I was talking to my brothers about as the problem with the shared continuity idea.

TDK ending will have to be dealt with outside of the franchise to make the JL work. Or what if Superman Returns had ended with Superman unconscious in the hospital.

You can't simply use "Tower of Babel" since the franchises are in seperate places. To much explanation of events that haven't been talked about in the seperate franchises.

We don't have a single new DC super-hero film green lighted yet so it'll be a while before WB tells us whether it'll be in continuity or not like Marvel.

That's if they use Nolan's Batman or Singer's Superman. It could just be a new continuity altogether.

Tower of Babel/OMAC is Miller's thing. Snyder might could use some other story for a JL film.

HAHAHAHA!
Those who think TDK ruins continuity are wrong
Hell, even Tower Of Babel can we pulled off! How?
In TDK we see Batman do something that can pretty much translate into creating a database of his hero friends and the origin of BrotherEye which is Oracle's surveillance computer

Also, Raz dying doesn't change a thing except since we have Talia and she has shown that she can be far more deadlier than her father was. Add in the fact that Bats has a love affair (in the comics at least) with her and you pretty much have the Justice League alienated and at each others throats

Plus, Tower of Babel would probably be a sequel while the first would be something with Vandal Savage.

As a side note: Who thinks Martian Manhunter should be portrayed by Lawrence Fishburne and his solo film have him be Klaatu from The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) except he actualy defeats the unseen alien threat

True.

I'm sure that's what the original draft of JL Mortal was supposed to be.

Agreed.

I'd like him to be Morrison's J'onn in JLA or his counter-part in JLU.

Not sure who should play him. Not The Fish. He's to recognizable right now.

Ah, the point of this thread was that Snyder should direct. I was pointing out that there are no stories that line up with either continuity for him to simply translate directly to screen ala 300.

And secondly, Bruce made sure the sonar was destroyed but now he's going to make the same mistake on a larger scale with Brother Eye? Now you really are flogging continuity.

There have been JLA comics for how many decades?

Snyder can find one or maybe use a few scenes from several story lines to make a new story for a movie.

That's what we need proper writers for. I wouldn't be suprized if they create an original comic book storyline in storyboard form and tell Snyder to translate it onto the bid screen

Bruce destroyed the Sonar System because it was ethically wrong
Who knows, something happens, maybe superman tells him that it would be a good idea to have a contingency plan just in case one of them went rogue (especially him, Supes has always been a bit wary of his powers).
Some like The Flash would be against it while others like Green Lantern would be for it, after all he is a police officer at the end of the day

Mistake? How was it a mistake? He spied on people, and once he was done needing to he got rid of the device, but he never had any regrets about what he did. It's perfectly within reason to assume that he'd do it again.

yeah, i wanna see Tower of Babel translated to the big screen now. it could work. and i'd like to see Batman pretty much be responsible for takin out the other Leaguers.

It would better as a sequel.

For most of the audience this will be the first time they've seen these characters or get to know the basics.

It will be the first time the audience could see a faithful WW. JLU viewers would be the only ones who realise the potential she has but they are outnumbered by Super Friends and Linda Carter viewers and people who only know what she looks like.

It would be much more impressive if they new the limits of what she can do and why they should care. Her solo movie could flesh it out while they'll only get a tiny morsel of information from JL since its an ensemble cast.

The lesser known JL can't go down to easily or the audience won't take them seriously and it will impact how the public viewers them for generations in the process.

This is kind of an experiment. We will see if panties will work in a film and if an ensemble cast of unknowns wil work without the support of Batman and Superman. Yes, even though this kind of an antihero story it could be considered a "what if" experiment in my book.

Great post

Have you read Watchmen? The costumes are supposed to look silly. That's the point.

and if an ensemble cast of unknowns wil work without the support of Batman and Superman.

Didn't the X-men already do that in 2000?

Yes, even though this kind of an antihero story it could be considered a "what if" experiment in my book.

It would only count as a "what if" if it had DCU characters in it.

Filming wise, it would be nice to see a jla movie in that appearance. It would make it seem more epic then even the approaches of singer and nolan.

But that goes completely against Batman's characterization in the Dark Knight because he destroyed his surveillance system. Lucius told him that it was wrong.

''The Dark Knight'' is a perfect movie, but he indeed kills the continuity.
