Kang the Conquerer NOT owned by Marvel

I agree. My expectation was that Fox owned Rama Tut and Nathaniel Richards. And Marvel owned Kang and Immortus. Plenty of story to go around there I think. And then in 2030 Fox and Marvel would finally get over themselves, work together and blow our minds by merging the timelines of these alternate universes in a massive crossover while revealing that these 4 personas of Kang were actually one and the same person after all.

That last bit of hope is based on the tiniest sliver of a chance Fox hasn't screwed over the Fantastic Four for the third time in a row. But the more we know about that film the worst case scenario seems more and more likely. :csad:

Has Kang (rather than Rama Tut or Nathaniel Richards) actually ever fought the Fantastic Four before?

Does it also mean that Fox own Iron Lad and could make their own teenaged version of Iron Man?

Yeah, Fox bought a lot of Marvel characters they have no interest in using. Rejoice Fox fans!

 At least CWR is consistent.

He can't possibly fathom why fans not towing the corporate line would be so disappointed with this news.

That would be perfect honestly.

damn the MCU reaaally needs Dr Doom, Kang, and Galactus after the Infinity Wars

Looks like the rights are determined by where they debuted, but there is room if they have had their own long run comics (InHumans).

That doesn't make sense. Kang debuted in Avengers #8 in 1964.

Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch debuted in the X-Men, but they're both co-owned by Fox and Marvel, because the twins spent a long time in the Avengers comics. And Kang spent a long time in the Avengers comics too, even though Rama Tut separately debuted in the FF in 1963.

Hate Fox at this point. Will not pay a dime to see any of their movies

Marvel sold Kang to Fox. If it wasn't Fox it'd have been some other studio. The only common link is Marvel selling them hence Marvel are responsible.

What a shame. Oh well maybe we can see the fantastic four versus kang.

It certainly makes a young avengers adaption just that little bit more difficult.

Yet another reason why I hope F4 fails

Im starting to wonder if Fox has Adam Warlock. Thank God Black Panther, Namor, Inhumans, and Ronan escaped the clutches of Fox and made it out alive.

Namor is in the clutches of Universal Studios. :o

Nobody seems to know who's clutches he's in. I imagine its like Hulk. They keep saying its complicated. There's at least some hope. There is no escape from FOX.

But other studios are giving the rights back or at least compromising (a la Spider-Man) with Marvel since they're clearly making superior superhero movies in a superhero universe. Fox keeps on churning out mostly garbage and clinging on to what Marvel could do SO MUCH better. Hence, I hate Fox.

And if MS brings in Hyperion and Nightwing, add DC's lawyers to the mix!

Other then Spider-Man the best characters belong to FOX

Marvel has a bunch of A level heroes who have achieved success in live action media - Spidey, Cap, Iron Man, Rocket, Hulk, Widow, Star Lord, Thor, Gamora & Daredevil. Coming up next is Ant Man, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Elektra, Iron Fist, Captain Marvel , Black Bolt, Medusa and Lock Jaw.

FOX has one A lister. And he's retiring.

You mean Hyperion and Nighthawk.

Also, lets be honest when Jackman leaves. Fox will recast Wolverine just like they did so many others.

Feige has said in the past that if anyone does Namor, it will be Marvel. I assume it's a matter of Marvel holding at least a majority stake in production but Universal owning distribution. Realistically, a nice briefcase full of money is all it would take for that to get cleared up.

Random speculation: Marvel simply hasn't cleared Namor's distribution rights yet because he's totally irrelevant to their current lineup. The Invaders weren't in The First Avenger, so Namor's next best fit would be in a Fantastic Four film. If Marvel gets them back and someone pitches a good take on Atlantis Rising, they'd probably cut that check.

Maybe Fox can just use Rama Tut and Nathaniel Richards, and prevent Marvel from using Kang because of those personas being aspects of his character, but I don't really see how Fox should be able to use the actual Kang, whose major elements are all steeped in Avengers lore.

If its a distribution issue like with Hulk then they wouldn't have to cut a check if they put him in another Marvel film right? I totally agree with you about the FF. If Marvel got their rights back that would be a great story for their first film is having Namor in it. I think Namor is in the same boat as Hulk. They could use him any way they want but they can't make a solo without Universal involvement and making money from it.

I was going to say, if Kang belongs to the Fantastic Four, there's a very strong argument Adam Warlock does too. Although he was basically redesigned for a solo series where he was the star, so maybe that's different. Maybe there's a difference between heroes and villains.

It's also interesting the only real outlier for this rule is the Silver Surfer. Inhumans, Black Panther, and Namor all fall under the same pattern. I wonder if Silver Surfer had a separate contract for Fox or if the Fantastic Four contract specifically included Galactus and Silver Surfer (or, maybe just that the SS is connected to Galactus and Galactus is inseparable from the FF).

On Namor's distribution: hard to say if it's like Hulk and Marvel's free to use him in non-solo works or if Universal has distribution on anything the character shows up in. We just don't have enough information on that one.

On Silver Surfer: his film rights were separate at one time, but he seems to have been folded into the FF contract at a later date.
