Karl Urban IS Skurge The Executioner

I love the "Des + Troy" bit :D

:funny:

I really liked the interaction between Hela and Skurge, it provided a few laughs.

That scene where Hela is like 'Tell me about yourself, Skurge' and he's all 'Well, my father was a stone mason' so eagerly and she cuts him off straight away like 'Yeah, I'm going to stop you there.' :hehe: Poor Skurge.

I love Skurge in this. Wish we could see more of him. He looks perfect.

I'm sad he's one and done. Urban was great.

Yep, loved that. :woot:

I'll ask this here as it may get lost in the other thread:

What is the shake weight scene people are referring to?

I have seen the film twice (UK) and have no clue!

That is a spoiler! Put it in SPOILER tags.

Put what in spoilers? I haven't said anything!

It wasn't in spoiler tags in the other thread either.

[BLACKOUT]Shake weight[/BLACKOUT]. Put that in spoiler tags.
That's a spoiler. You are describing a scene.

Maybe the other thread was a "SPOILERS" thread. And then it's fine.

Dude, I had to google the word, having never heard it before.

Can you please describe the scene? I am wondering if it was cut from the UK release?

Put that first coment of yours in a spoiler tag or edit it out and i'll explain the scene.

It's too bad Skurge does not have a larger roll in Ragnarok, but what I think would be cool is if Skurge The Executioner could have his connection with Amora the Enchantress be replaced by Ares The God of War in Thor 4. It would allow for the opportunity to introduce the Olympian's? The Enchantress charming and turning Hercules against Thor with Ares planning to jump in to take down the already exhausted winner. We have already seen Ares alluded to on Sakaar's stadium, so it would be a good way to tie things together. I know it is probably unlikely, but I just think it would make for a great Thor 4.

Ah c'mon HD, it's not really spoilery per se. He's not describing anything important, just a super quick cutaway sight gag. I'll put my reply under a spoiler tag anyway though. :cwink:

It's right at the beginning of the film when Thor is calling Heimdall to open the Bifrost (after he has defeated Surtur), Skurge totally isn't paying attention and is trying to impress the two girls who are with him by showing them his 'stuff' (that he's collected from other realms), one of the girls notices that the Bifrost is kinda flashing to alert attention and she asks Skurge if it's important and it quickly cuts to Skurge holding a Shake Weight. It's just a really quick sight gag, and yes it's definitely in the UK version as a Brit who has seen the movie 3 times. :woot:

Having watched the film again - I think it's a credit to Urban not only what he did with his dialogue but also what he did without dialogue. A great use of nuanced expressions and pathos - conveyed so much conflict and emotion without saying anything at times.

I love Urban's Skurge, I don't think he's being given enough credit.

I love how he was set up as being a bit of a useless, easily distracted coward and both Loki and Hela's exasperation at him was funny ("You had one job!" "Skurge, where's the SWORD?" :funny:) but then he totally redeemed himself at the end. A great little supporting character arc based on one of the greatest comic book moments of all time.

"Tex-arse" :woot:

I love the "Des + Troy" bit :D

I loved these parts too. :woot:

He just wanted to survive and be remembered. [BLACKOUT]You can see from his introduction scene from how Thor didn't know him and Loki saying he had one job.[/BLACKOUT]

I really liked Skurge.

I LOVED Skurge and his arc was well done, definitely not an ordinary lackey.

^^^Totally agree with that. I wasnt expecting that awesome accent either. :D

Urban really brought out his inner-Kiwi with that accent, much like Sharlto Copley really hamming up his own accent in Elysium, lol. :D

Honestly, wasn't feeling his accent and I wanted him to be a badass. He was kind of a weasel.

As a fan of Skurge's last stand from Simonson's run... He was underwhelming to me. Which is a shame and not something I hold Urban to account for. They dropped the ball on him. [BLACKOUT]I felt nothing when he mad his sacrifice. It felt perfunctory and in there simply as fan service. [/BLACKOUT]

Urban is great, and I liked his take on Skurge, but does anyone else wish they hadn’t used the character?

He didn’t have the screen time he needed IMO. And neither did Hela, so I think they should have left Skurge out and given his screen time to Hela.

I think Hela needed someone to play off from. Skurge was the logical choice. And they had some pretty good moments together. I guess there could have been even more to that relationship and a better pay off by the end. In the end of the day Skurge served his purpose even though they could have extracted more depth out of certain moments with him to really honor the comics.

Still we got to see some iconic imagery and moments. Could have had more impact though.

Yes, Skurge was there so we could learn more about Hela and Asgard's past. I wouldn't mind more screen time for both of them, but that would have meant that the Planet Hulk aspects would have had to be shortened, which I don't want.

I guess the other choice would be to make a longer film, which I of course can't object strongly to as a big fan that always could watch more of everything, but there's a risk that the great pacing of the film could have gotten worse.

Not sure if I would have preferred a straighter take on Skurge.

This. Alot of the things in the movie have to be taken into perspective. If we would take more on one side then it would shorten the other one up. Skurge had a decent part to play and good amount of screen time. Having said that the stuff in Sakaar was so great, Hulk/Banner, Thor, The Grandmaster, Valkyrie... I'm happy with what i got in terms of giving more screen time here and there.

It was more about the execution of Skurge's arch which would need more time and focus. The movie didn't focus on that. The movie already had it's focus in other major stuff.
