There is absolutely no way she will be underplayed. Hell I'm even hoping she gets used even more. Like even if they don't make her the character of Death like lots of people want, I'm hoping she reappears in Infinity War or another movie, even a solo movie for a villian would be great.

I didn't hear any news about her in Infinity Wars pt. 1, but I'm holding out hope for part 2; it'd be criminal for Marvel to only use Blanchette in just one movie.

I don't think you can underuse Cate. If you cut her out she'll just magically appear when you view your assembled cut anyway.

Hello, I've been visiting this thread since the beginning of Thor Ragnarok production. I'm a Cate Blanchett fan but hey I love Marvel films! I'm so looking forward to see Thor Ragnarok and reading the first reactions makes me so glad. Here are some of the gifs I made :)

Welcome, fellow Blanchett devotee! :woot: Those gifs are fantastic, thanks for sharing. I could watch gifs of Hela fighting all day, she's an utter beast.

It's an actual fact that Cate's charisma can be seen from outer space.

It's clear that Ragnarok it's going to be Hela's origin story as the Goddess of Death and Queen of Hel (she says "I'm not a queen" in the trailers, so it's safe to say she has never ruled Hel), but something I really wish to see in a future movie is Hela being a proper Queen. You know, I want to see her elegantly reclined in her throne made of bones while she casually sips from a chalice, looking bored as someone like Loki or Thanos comes to have an audience, I want to see her actually rule, do queen-ish stuff. And I also want to see her wearing more outfits other than the catsuit when she's not performing physical stunts because she has the most fabulous flowing gowns.

I'm not sure I agree that this movie is going to be Hela's origin story, according to Cate she's been imprisoned for five thousand years so she's already very ancient. Just because she says she's not a queen now (even though she also tells Thor and Loki to 'bow to their queen', jeez make your mind up woman :cwink:) it doesn't mean that she wasn't the Queen of Hel in the past. I imagine that title was stripped of her when she was banished.

I would love to see her dressed differently though, but I'm not sure how many of comics Hela's umm... let's say, rather more 'revealing' dresses would translate to live action. :oldrazz:

Thank y'all. There's a new trailer

Apparently the quality is not that HD but here we are with a new "I'm the goddess of death." :woo:

I love how it's like she's the new boss opening up an office meeting... "It has come to my attention...." lol

nice. gonna love this.

Hela has been imprisoned for 5,000 years? Well that rules out Loki's remark about 5000 years being the Asgardians life span.

Her quote when she says "you're in my seat" to Thor on the asgardian throne reveals a sense of entitlement from her part to queenship. If she was indeed Queen of Hel in the past I don't think she would stop seeing herself as such just because someone else stripped her of the title against her will, especially if you consider how in the comics the identity of Ruler of Hel and her sense of duty to her realm is deeply ingrained into her characterization and motivations. Cate has given an interview saying that those centuries of imprisionment brought her to darkness, implying that prior to her incarceration she was not as evil, comparatively, so there's clearly a fallen from grace storyline here, which counts as an origin story, I guess -- especially if the speculations in the main thread about [BLACKOUT]Hela originally belonging to Odin's family[/BLACKOUT] being true.

My guess is that Hela will try to conquer Asgard as personal revenge, but fail and end up seizing Hel instead as some consolation prize.

Not necessarily, we don't even know that Hela is an Asgardian. In the comics she's actually a Jotun (being the daughter of Loki and a giantess), but MCU Hela could have come from anywhere for all we know.

Well, he does say 'give or take' ... and maybe she committed her offense when she was 12, and ended up in Asgard's version of perpetual juvie.

Um... goddess of death everyone? someone who has literal power over death and could use it to extend her life span?

I still believe Asgardians live longer than 5,000 years.

I still believe Asgardians live longer than 5,000 years.

I think the average asgardian might live around 5000 years while the most "powerful", for the lack of a better word, like Odin and his relatives might live somewhat longer. Its clear that despite being from the same species, asgardians demonstrate different levels of power.

I see where you're coming from and it makes sense, but what really would be the purpose of setting Hela up as the Queen of Hel and as her more traditional comics counterpart in this movie? Where are you thinking we're going to see her again? Because as much as I would like it to happen (I would sell my soul to Lord Feige for it :woot:), I don't see them making an MCU movie based around Hela so the only place it would really make sense for her to pop up again (as the Queen of Hel) would be in another Thor sequel. And again, what really is the point? Another Thor movie would presumably have a different villain so she would likely end up being a small supporting role or cameo at most.

From what the press kit says, Hela's focus isn't actually just on Asgard anyway, she has more universe spanning plans. And I still think they're setting her up to be the muse of Thanos in IW, so I think they're giving Hela a more cosmic focus in the MCU rather than just being the Asgardian Goddess of Death and the queen of one realm like she is in the comics. We already know that MCU Hela is vastly more powerful than comics Hela.

You make a pretty good point there. :cwink:

When you put it that way... yeah it makes sense. But she could still have Hel conquered at some point in Thor: Ragnarok as her first step for cosmic dominance (if she was once its queen she would want to retake it, and if she was never its queen but is calling herself goddess of death now she'd want rulership over it because it's literally where the dead are) and the following Marvel movies would follow as she aims for bigger targets while lending Hel's resources to Thanos, not only as his muse, but as an actual political ally. Like a proper queen.

I just can't separate Hela and Hel in my mind.

I get not being able to separate Hela and Hel in your mind. When I first found out about the fact that Hela had been imprisoned for millennia I remember thinking, wait who's ruling Hel?? That's a genuine question though, the goddess of death position comes with a lot of responsibility. It's supposed to be her job to collect the souls of dead Asgardians and take them to their correct afterlife (Hel, Valhalla, Nifleheim, e.t.c), as well as rule over the dead... so who's been doing that all this time? :cwink:

I must say, I like that Cate decided to cosplay as Ayesha from GotG 2 at the premiere last night. That's dedication for you. :cwink:

Another highlight was her frightening the life out of that poor Marvel reporter girl who didn't realise that she was standing directly behind her waiting to be interviewed. :funny: And Chris Hemsworth getting ridiculously excited when he saw that she'd arrived on the screens and saying "I just love her so much" was really sweet, what a great cast.

Cate videobombing in the background is so ridiculously cute. The host was like 'HOLY **** CATE BLANCHETT IS STANDING BEHIND ME.' :funny:
