In an interview with Japanese site PC Impress Watch, Kutaragi said: "You can't charge money for network matching and other basic services. These things are just taken for granted on the PC."

"On the PS3, basic services will be taken for granted while content will be the bread and butter of our business."

"We really wanted to do this with the PS2. But now Apple has realised a successful e-distribution program, it's about time we made our move, too."

I read it once and it didn't click, can you tell me what this means?

Hahah wow I'm tired I read Network matching as Network matchmaking. :p

Basically that the service will be free to use and content will cost money (like extras).

So, like, deathmatch = free, new maps and **** = money?

Yep.

So after 2 short years of paying for Xbox live, your Xbox 360 will have costed you the equivalent to a core PS3! And the Xbox 360 doesn't give you a fully capable Blue Ray player on top of it all.

If you're planing on playing games on your next gen system, it's clear which system is offering you better value for your dollar over the long term, by not bending over the consumer with needless fees and overpriced addons.

All without including a Blue Ray Drive!

Oh no People are spending Money Online with a System that has no Blu Ray Drive. Bring out the Pooper Scoopers !!!!!!!!!!!!! & who the hell een thinks about using the XBOX 360 & any Game System for Matchmaking ? Thats one thing that comes to NO ONES mind when using a Video Game System. What the hell is Sony on. It is going to be fun to see how Sony trashes every other System until Launch lol. I can picture what they say about the Nintendo Wii now

"Screw the Wii who wants to swing around a Controller save your time buy the PS3"

Thats a future Commercial coming to TV everyone advertising the PS3

Fixed.

I'd rather have the cost of the unit absorbed upfront than by nickle and dimed year after year for peer to peer networking!

Unless you're like the thousands of smart gamers who got a free year with select copies of Splinter Cell 2 and an additional 2-3 years for $19 when a nationwide pricing error caused a mass buyout :)

I just got the Free Year & 1 Month Extra  Good enough for me. Its not like I play on Live alot & I will just use their free weekends when my subscription ends to just use Live

No, you'll be nickle and dimed to death for the microtransactions.

ONLY FIVE CENTS FOR A TURRET UPGRADE IN WARHAWK! AVAILABLE NOW!!! TEN CENTS FOR LONGER WINGS!

So far, there really hasnt been any micro content on Live. Its basiclly been the equivalent of small expansion packs. The day I have to buy an individual gun for 20 cents is the day I lose faith in the system.

That's not going to happen, and that's a very weak arguement. Besides there have been a LOT of microtransactions on XBL, the wallpapers? Taking that up a scale look at what Oblivion has offered. Map packs and expansions are the exception and you're foolling yourself to think any different. 99 percent of all the 'extra content' that you can pay for on XBL isn't an 'expansion', it's a microtransaction.

And even if they DO offer a DLC weapon, which is stupid, I don't have to buy it. I'd still have to pay for XBL regardless.

I'm surprised you don't have to pay for PS3 online considering only about 3 people who had PS2's went online.

After Socom II had been released for a year there were more people playing the Socom series then all of Xbox live combined. Of course Sony has sheer numbers on their side when it comes to potential online users. PS2 people playing online > Xbox live subcriptions.

That's just the nature of the beast.

What you're not mentioning though is that more time has been spent on Xbox Live than the PS2's online "sevice".

And since you're into bold claims, I think it's safe to say that more time was spent playing Halo 2 than every PS2 online game combind.

YEP......OVER 1 BILLION 'HALO 2' MATCHES ALONE. :o

I like XBOX Live a hell of alot more then PS2. Particuarly for their Arcade & I am looking forward to playing Mortal Kombat & Street Fighter & original Sonic again  Lets see Sony copy Microsoft Live Arcade idea for the PS3 & do their own thing but with a different name

If Sony keeps it's service free, I'll be surprised.

You'd have to pay for extra maps they upload etc. Although Im not expecting much from Sony in terms of Online. They will change their minds soon & make it subscription

'You cant charge for basic services'?

mmmm... Vauge :o
