Ken Kutaragi: You can't charge the user money for Networking and Matchmaking!

Now, if only Kutaragi announces the $600 price tag comes with a free blow job and harem of beautiful women I'll pick one up.

What you're not mentioning though is that more time has been spent on Xbox Live than the PS2's online "sevice".

And since you're into bold claims, I think it's safe to say that more time was spent playing Halo 2 than every PS2 online game combind.

Halo 2 is also over-rated, and I'm no fan of Socom either. More time spent playing Halo 2 than all other PS2 games combined? Maybe, I don't think so, but it doesn't matter all that much. The assumption that no one plays PS2 online is what the debate is centered around here, and clearly that's incorrect.

SOCOM II logs more player hours than ALL of Xbox Live

As the summer months continue to warm up, PlayStation 2 gamers are beating the heat, and beating up each other, by playing more games online. We are seeing a huge uptake in the amount of gamers that are playing online since early May. Perhaps it’s because school has ended and gamers are finding more time to frag their friends online, or maybe it’s purely due to beating the heat waves, but the numbers don’t lie. There has been a marked increase in the number of online players for the top online console game SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs. Here are a few of the updated numbers for SOCOM II. Stay tuned for more great SOCOM II news in the very near future.

Since May 1st 2004 SOCOM II has averaged 373,000 player hours per day. By itself, SOCOM II is logging more player hours daily than ALL Xbox titles worldwide.

The total numbers of player hours for SOCOM II is fast approaching 94 million hours, or the equivalent of 10,835 YEARS of straight gameplay.

Even nine months after launch, SOCOM II is still seeing more than 30,000 simultaneous users per day, far and away more than any other console title. That is like logging on and playing SOCOM II with the entire graduate and undergraduate student population of the University of Southern California!

On any average day, there are more than 103,000 unique SOCOM II accounts logging-in, which is equivalent to the entire capacity of the University of Michigan Stadium, one of the largest sporting venues in the United States. This many people are playing SOCOM II everyday!!

If you have any questions or would like to discuss SOCOM II further, please don’t hesitate to call.

Regards and happy gaming, Patrick Seybold Sony Computer Entertainment America

Pitty PS2 players have the dreadfull Socom games to play online and nothing decent... The internet might fall over if a larger percentage of of PS2 players went online though :D

Sometimes I wonder if some of you guys think that the PS2 online experience is nothing but EA quality servers running Madden or something. There are a lot of online PS2 games, so yeah as a service there's no real comparison between PS2 Online and Xbox live, but you can certainly do worse if you want to find plentiful games that will offer a fun online experience with rock solid stable servers and features (Because the servers are rock solid, and every game has adequate features for said game, except like Twisted Metal Online). Granted, you never has access to the inter connectivity features of Xbox live, but that's what PS3 online is going to address right?

And WHF really needs to stop being such a corrosive fanboy, omg. :o

By the way...I can´t wait to throw down over $900 so I can see through the rear view mirror of my vehicle through my PSP while playing riiiiiiiiidge raaacerrr

I see that in my absence Zenien has not yet been killed :(

For a brief moment, at e3, it looked like she was finally going to give up the ghost and stop being such a sony ****e...but alas, it lasted all of ten minutes, and now here is Kutagari's number one fan(girl) again.

Uh, yes. I just happens that I take a stance you don't like, but I'm nowhere near the fanboy that a lot of you are. I stick to the facts, actually enjoy more then just Sony believe it or not, and never go into a thread to troll or make comments that have nothing to do with the subject matter. If I was a fanboy like WHF, I'd decry anything Nintendo and Microsoft right? And I clearly don't do that.

Not that any of THIS matters, mind you.

Horror fan, I'm playing through OBLIVION right now...

Now I know you think there's some overbaring fanboyism for Sony on this board (yeah right), and that drives you to start being a corossive fanboy by your own admission, but look around, there's like 2 people beside me who even like Sony around here and post. Take a look around man. :o

Now let's get back on topic. Networking, online.

Zenin, you are the biggest sony ****e , or any gaming fanboy, I have seen in ANY board, ANYWHERE, EVER. Im not saying it makes you a bad person, I think your kind of ok, but still, whats the point in denying it?

I don't think there's overbearing sony fanboyism from anyone but you...in fact, your the only person here who I can think of who is still remotely defending sony...

Everyone here knows your the worst when it comes to fanboyism. The nintendo fanboyism is more prevelant, but for single worst offender for any console, its gotta be you.

Ok let me rephrase that, I'm playing through Oblivion on my own 360 which I bought off a friend. I'm a level 12 (stupid world levelling) Asassin, mark of the Thief, Redgard, and I'm going through the quest to prove the heritage of the Half Orc champion in the Imperial arena, and my computer sucks way too much for me to own the PC version thanks for asking. You guys don't seem to understand the concept that I enjoy Playstation because of the games... and were I a huge fanboy, what the heck am I doing talking up the Wii. Why was I the one calling everyone who thought that the DS and WIi would fail in the face of the PSP and PS3/360 an idiot? That doesn't line up with the fanboy MO. You can think what you want, in the absence of all logic, that I'm the biggest fanboy here, but in reality I'm far from it.

But have fun making me the target and issue herw when clearly, you've got nothing pertaining to the topic at hand.
